Love that they made a winery in this historic building. Beautiful grounds. Friendly people. Interesting to hear historic facts. Wish they served a little more food/appetizers than the cheese /cracker plates.

We visited on a day that was cold and windy, which kept us from exploring outside. After hearing about the history of the buildings from Jesse, who runs the winery, we would have loved to wander the extensive grounds to look around. There is a tasting room in the main building to try the excellent wines made from grapes grown on the grounds (who knew Missouri has it's own grape varieties?) and several rooms on the main floor that serve as reception rooms for large events like weddings. There are old pictures and some historical items around which show the various uses of the place: an orphanage, a hospital, an old folks' home, and the home of the Oddfellows. (Look for the skeleton of George, an Oddfellow who left his body to science.) For now, the decor is eclectic, with period pieces mixed with modern ones, and historic photos sharing walls with wedding photos of couples who were married there (not sure we'd want other couples' photos in the background of our wedding photos!)

For now, go to enjoy the wines, which are very good, and compare to wines in other places. There are future plans to add a bed and breakfast to the upper floor, where it is said that one can hear the giggles of the children who lived there long ago. When we return, we'll be sure to ask for those rooms!

It is a very old orphanage that has been converted somewhat to a winery. Walked in to find broken tiles and a small tasting area that also sells a few t-shirts etc. If you want to sip wine which was okay- nothing great --while walking through an old childrens home ( which is sad in of itself) and find a real skeleton(George)(poor George is on display) in a glass casket- then you should go. Otherwise this place just creeped me out. In another room they even have a headstone above the fireplace. Not elegant like I had expected.

We expected the building to be more renovated and were disappointed in the sparcity of the furnishing. Didn't see any ghosts though
