We try to let all of our customers know that when you come stay with us, you are staying in a real Atchison, Topeka Santa Fe caboose an opportunity of a lifetime.

-When you got here you paid for 3 nights, on the 3rd night you ask for another night.
-We do not have any ladders in any of our cabooses. We have spiraling staircases and straight staircases leading up to the cupola with a queen size bed.
-Ice bags and two restaurants are 3 miles away. Not 10 miles. (2 ice trays in each caboose)

We could tell you guys had LOTS of fun playing and hanging out on our dock.
We are very sorry you were not pleased with us.

Caboose's come fully furnished but don't plan on cooking a big meal on the Stove since it is only a 3 burner and super small. We crammed 5 people and two dogs inside one of these for two days but since you rarely are inside it wasn't a big deal. I was concerned about the height inside since I am really tall at 6'7" but had no issues, even in the shower. The toilet however was a different story. It was really small, even for the kids. The floating dock was a real plus. It had a second story you can jump into the water, a rope swing and even a slide. There are fire pits and charcoal grills at every cabin. You can rent a pontoon boat or paddle boat or just fish off the dock. Everyone was really friendly. Had the feeling like a little community. Area is really pretty too.

Yes, I agree with some of the other reviews. BUT, we came unprepared on many levels. These are things you need to be aware of:

I would register during the day. The grounds are more difficult to manuever at night because of less exterior lighting.

The website states you will need your own towels, but you will also need to brings paper towels, napkins etc..the kitchen came with very little. It is 10 miles to the Kimberling City grocery store, so just be aware of this. The little gas station with a few basics is close-3 miles but we didn't know it closed at 7pm. We were too late. We should have asked the front desk, I know, but it would have been helpful to have a handout on this kind of information. We also didn't realize that there would be only one pot in total and no pans. The old beat-up 1 1/2 quart didn't even allow for fixing spagetti. It was 9pm at the time and we couldn't do a thing about it. So if you have a family, you should probably bring some pots and pans ( Eating can be expensive for lunch and dinner). You need to know that there is no room to hand dry you dishes. We did not have a drying rack. You have about 14" to place your clean dishes if you remove the coffee maker.

You need to be aware of the bunk bed situation. I haven't seen anyone address this safety hazzard in their reviews. There are NO TOP BUNK RAILS and NO STEP LADDER TO THE TOP BUNKS. We could not put our smaller children on the top bunks- a serious hazzard. One of our children was very uncomfortable in the bunk because all sides are closed and he is 6 feet. He had to stretch out on the loveseat. You should also know that if you are a larger person, you will not be able to ift in the closed toilet room. This is not mentioned on the brochure. I had to take off my knee brace to use the restroom. I know you're thinking- I should have known that a caboose toilet room would be extremely small.

The steps on the caboose are really cute but be aware that they are slippery when wet. A person with mobility issues will have trouble. Of course I should know this, but it STILL would be helpful to read about it. I knew there would be steps, but I underestimated how narrow the steps were.

I feel the pictures on the website are accurately depicted but not particularly on the very narrow space between sides. The main corridor was very narrow and too narrow for my family. I'm sure it is perfectly fine for a couple.

You also need to know that there is virtually no storage. There is a small 16" wide cupboard which houses a broom. It has a rod to hang some closes. But really, who comes here planning to wear a dress!! What would have been infinately better would be to put shelves all the way down the cupboard. We had no room to put all our luggage so it was necessary to put the suitcases in the car and go out and fetch clothes. You need to know the caboose WILL NOT handle but a few suitcases-not for a family of 5 unless every outfit is a bathsuit all day long and for every day. Still, it's easy to trip on bags. For a couple only, suitcases can easily be place on a lower bunk.

You need to know that as a parent, you won't be sleeping with your kids on the same floor. The bed is at the top of very narrow, and unsafe winding stairs for very small children. No doubt this is fantastic for a pair of love birds or families who have older children. Our 5 year old was scared and tried to maneuver the stairs in dim light. Not a successful event

I will say that the boat dock with the slide and rope were tremendous fun for the kids. Renting a boat would be fun tool. The water was clean and safe. They even had float rafts and extra life jackets. The wood balcony was large and accomodating

Overall, Great concept, great ambiance, but not a great accommodation for a family with smaller children who have flown into the area and can't really bring in kitchen items mentioned above. Great if you plan on eating a bowl of cereal and juice for breakfast and maybe pb&j for lunch. But plan on eating out for dinner or you'll need some pot and pans. Great for couples and families with older children. Take VERY TINY suitcases. Learn from the get-go what time places close. The winding roads are tricky at night.

Room Tip: Ask if there is a caboose that receives moredaylight sun than others. The caboose we had was very da...

We try to let all of our customers know that you are staying in Atchison, Topeka Santa Fe cabooses.

Your group seemed to be such nice people, many of your issues would have been resolved if you simply asked us. We encourage all future guest reading this to ask about accommodation such as napkins. Our location is not a hidden fact, but if you have questions please ask. We are truly sorry about the kitchenette. We had a big family stay in several cabooses and they like to cook together. We are truly sorry our cleaning help didn't put the correct pots and pans in place. We have plenty more so please ask if we mixed up the arrangement.

The caboose has two box-car seats that make out into a bunk, allowing a family to have two lower bunks instead of one lower and one upper. Please ask us next time and we will show you how to pull out the caboose box-car seat. The caboose you stayed in has the smallest bathroom out of all the cabooses.

I don't recommend walking or stepping on to any wet surfaces.

We have been in business now for 41 years many guest have found where to put their luggage a few tips under the bunk beds, stack luggage in closet, behind the stairs, behind the refrigerator, and behind the TV are the most common places to keep the luggage.

We have many lighting fixtures, none of them should be dim. If they are please let us know so we can change them out for new bulbs. If your child is scarred. Let him enjoy sleeping in the cupola with the parents!

We are very sorry that you guys were not happy here. Our place is geared for young and old alike, small and large family's. We want to remind everyone that you will be staying in a real caboose an opportunity of a lifetime. If you are expecting anything else please be sure to call and ask us any questions and concerns you might have. Once you arrive we are very welcoming to any and all questions, please be sure to ask.

We had a very nice time, Enjoyed the lake and the atmosphere. The caboose was unique and a great place to stay. Groceries and supplies were very close by made it very easy and having a grill right outside our caboose was a great plus. Loved the fire pits, hammocks, the view of the lake - just everything about Caboose Junction. The owners were very friendly and checked on us to make sure we had everything we needed. I have recommended Caboose Junction to several of our friends, and we will definitely be going back!

We loved staying here in the cabooses! Had a great time sitting on the deck, playing on the dock, resting in the hammocks and enjoying the lake views. Four of us went for a restful, relaxing girl's week-end and had so much fun. The deck was my favorite - with wooden rocking chairs, picnic tables, grills, and of course can't forget the squirrels running around. We could see the lake from the deck, beautiful sunsets. Inside the caboose we had plenty of room. Two bunks on each side at one end of the caboose with a queen size bed in cupola. We cooked our meals in the kitchen, pots and pans, plates, utensils all provided. Only thing I will take next time is another skillet. Refrigerator, microwave, coffee pot and toaster provided. Everything you need for a kitchen. Stool in one little room and shower and sink in another part. In middle of caboose there is a couch, chair, TV and a wood stove. Very quaint and authentic. The owners were very friendly. We definitely hope to come back here again and maybe bring the family.

Room Tip: The three cabooses on connected together with deck was our favorite. You do have to share the deck...

Our family discovered this gem when staying at another nearby resort many years ago (18+) and decided to give Caboose Junction a try the following year. We haven't missed a year since, with many of our extended family accompanying us whenever possible. All of our children, as well as our nieces and nephews, learned to ski, tube and jet ski in the beauty of Table Rock Lake and the Caboose Junction cove. The swim dock and access to the lake are phenomenal and Pat, Will and the rest of their family are wonderful hosts.

These are a fun alternative to the traditional cabin on the lake. The interior of the cabins have a very authentic feel. Our first visit was several years ago when my husband and I wanted a romantic getaway. It was a lovely and peaceful weekend. This year we came out with a group of friends (adults and kids) early in the season, and made good use of the wood stoves. The owners are friendly and very accommodating to kids and to pets. We had a great time both trips and plan to come out again!
