We stayed at the Blue Top Inn on June 25th. We needed a place to stay while visiting our daughter, who lives in Lamar. We thought it would be a nice clean place to stay. Boy were we mistaken! There was mold in the shower. A bug smashed on the wall. Dirt on the rail to hold your clothes and it gets worse. The most disgusting part was turning down the first double bed to find pubic hair embedded in the sheets. I was ready to cry and pack up and move. We would have check out but the other hotel in town was booked up. We slept in the second double bed and it looked ok . Did not sleep very well. We tried to go complain at the office the next morning. It wasn't open yet. We would have complained the night before, but no one is on duty after 8pm. So needless to say, we recommend you not stay here. Thanks, Sheila

O happy day! Stayed here years ago and WOW the remodeling has made a dramatic difference. New life has been breathed into what used to be a dark & dreary "seen better days" motel. The rooms have been freshly repainted. Flat screen TV with built-in DVD player, free wifi with great signal strength, mini fridge & micro. We always seek out motels where you can park right in front of the room, which makes it sooooo easy to load & unload luggage vs trying to maneuver an unwieldy cart down a long carpeted hallway, or worse, up & down stairways. There was a vanity area separate from the bathroom/shower which ensured plenty of counter space. They provided a generous supply of fluffy towels, including a couple shaped into cute animals :-) The bed was comfortable with crisp white sheets and actual fitted bottom sheets rather than a tucked in flat sheet that comes undone in the middle of the night. Guests receive coupon for free 2-egg breakfast w/bacon, sausage or ham & coffee or small juice at Denny's across the street :-) Admittedly, there were a couple places on the ceiling that need some attention & the shower needs to be re-tiled/caulked, the tub re-surfaced & fixtures replaced. The workmanship was a little rough on the tile around the toilet, but the floor was clean, as was the sink, which drained very well. The owners have definitely invested in major improvements, and it shows. Parking lot was well lit and felt safe. Priced right, this was a real bargain. Love giving our hard earned money to owners who really care - would DEFINITELY stay here again !!!

We stayed there over the Fourth of July weekend, 2012. It was a nice enough travel motel, but they have no idea what true 5-star service and quality is. It was just a motel room; nice enough, but not anything 5-star about it.

We stayed here in June 2012. We were in the area for a State Baseball Tournament. We had 13 rooms booked. I can not tell you how incredibly friendly the staff was to our team. They were flexible and on top of every request any of us had. They even checked in with us after each game to see how our team did.

The Luxury rooms were awesome. Each Luxury room has a theme. They were remodeled so nicely. The beds were very comfortable, there were microwaves/fridges in each room and new tvs, and the air conditioning worked great on the hot summer days. They also made figures out of towels so you felt like you were in an expensive hotel! They keep this motel immaculate. The outdoor pool is great. It was big enough for our team to enjoy their downtime in it and not overtake the pool.

I am not sure what the best part of our stay was. The nightly rate was extremely cheap for the type of rooms we had. We have all stayed in more expensive rooms that were not as nice.

Also, we got breakfast each morning at the Denny's across the street. It is owned by the same individuals that own the motel and you will see the same people work at both. They are all very hard workers and still very polite and willing to accomodate in any way they can.

If you get a chance to stay here, please do so. You will not be disappointed. We didn't want to leave and we are trying to find an excuse to go back to the area to stay again.

Room Tip: If you book a luxury room you will be impressed. It is worth the extra money.

I rolled into Lamar after making a morning trip to Joplin. While eating a late lunch I decided it was too hot to be on the road. I got the last room available and was not disappointed. I got the Admirals room. The room was very clean. The bed was as comfortable as my sleep number. The towels are big and thick. My room had a microwave and mini fridge. A big plus for me was being able to park in front of my room since I ride a motorcycle. Got a bonus history lesson as the room was decorated with the bios of 3 admirals who had their roots in MO. The lady who checked me in was friendly and helpful. A great value for the price.

Room Tip: Coupon for free breakfast at restaurant right across the street.

We used to stay at this place for work. Since they have remodeled....Prices are way to high and the blue top next door....They are NEVER open and their food has gone down in qulity. Would never stay there again.

This is an older inn that has been completely remodeled, and somewhat updated. Very clean, very friendly staff, and very soft new bedding. However, I did think it was a bit pricey @ $60, but included a full hot breakfast. Thumbs up.
