We pulled in to set up for dinner and a sleep. Very clean camp grounds and fairly level sites. The camp host seemed a little frazzled - but she has a friend visiting and their dogs were running around misbehaving which was causing her some stress. We got there to late to buy fire wood - they stopped selling it at 5:00- I thought that was strange. So if you plan on stopping you may want to have wood on board. Would highly recommend.

As with all Missouri State Parks, entrance, picnicking, hiking and fishing are free; there are camping fees.

There are miles of hiking and multi-use (includes horses) trails. Varied habitats include oak-hickory woods, small lakes, a savanna, and a pine stand.

Birding is good anytime of year. Waterfowl may be on the lakes in season; migrants such as warblers, vireos, and tanagers can be found, especially in spring and fall.

Hiked a trail that follows a lake with short bridges & easy terrain in January Gorgeous day but not a lot of wildlife that time of year Looking forward to returning in the summer & maybe try a kayak

Camped with some friends for the weekend. Nice sites, not too close together. Enough trees for hammocks to be hung in most sites. Great fire pits. Tents and RV's mixed together. Trails were fun, with varied terrain. Not overcrowded on trails even on a beautiful Saturday afternoon.

One of the best State Parks we have visited. Well done Visitor Center. Took a walk around Lake Buteo - very pretty with fall flowers (1 mile, easy hike).
