“Buenas Comidas”
Reviewed September 24, 2012

It is hard to find a good Mexican restaurant in the midwest, especially after having been raised in Southern California. This is a restaurant that understands the difference and can cater to those who like spicy as well as those with more timid taste buds. They actually have a hot sauce that is really hot (ask for it specially). My favorite is the cilantro lime shrimp- bursting with flavor- always tasty and flavorful.

“Great Food; Bad for Groups”
Reviewed August 25, 2012

I'll open this review by saying that Amigos buried their group check policy on the very bottom of the back of the menu. Groups of 6 get an automatic 18% tip added; groups of 7+ get an automatic 20%. They will only give one check for groups. I suspect that these policies are in place because if other groups experienced what we did, they wouldn't tip above 15%.

Our group of 7 took an hour to get seating. Then 15 minutes to get drinks orders. Another 15 for food orders. The server not only let drinks go empty, but also randomly left a pitcher of water sitting on our table for an additional 15 minutes. When she finally noticed it again, she whisked it away without so much as an acknowledgment. She seemed nice, but the only time her service was swift and capable was bill time.

Now, the food was amazing, we all agreed. The queso dip was divine. But the drinks? Big thumbs down to the margaritas, which were essentially $8 cups of ice with a splash of liquid. I can't stress enough what a poor value the drinks were. Our group was astonished.

All in all, this restaurant was neither worth the wait nor the money. You'd be better served by finding decent Mexican with excellent drinks elsewhere.

“Lunch on the patio”
Reviewed August 23, 2012 via mobile

Had the chorizo dip as an appetizer, it was pretty good. Followed that up with a chicken quesadilla, which was also very good. We sat on the patio in the back. The temperature and atmosphere with Mexican music playing made me feel like we were south of the border!

“It was nice”
Reviewed August 20, 2012

We ate there on a Friday evening with friends. The place was packed and people were waiting. We got a table on the outside deck and the weather was perfect for that. The staff was excellent, very prompt and very attentive. The food was mixed. My wife had chicken quesadillas and she said they were really good. Someone recommended the fish tacos, so I tried them. They were pretty much tasteless. There were three tacos, mostly lettuce with a small amount of grilled fish and a very small paper ketchup cup with a spoonful of corn salsa. That was it. Someone else got the enchiladas and she ate only half of it. It just wasn't interesting or tasty food. However, I've found that Mexican food really varies from restaurant to restaurant and the one you get started on may be the only one you ever like. This restaurant really draws a lot of people so it's probably just a matter of taste.

“Stay Away!”
Reviewed December 15, 2011

Have been here many times. A customer since it opened. Last 2 visits food and drinks were lousy. $7.99 for a lousy margarita is not the way to keep customers. Tamales served Tuesday night were lukewarm and bland. Suggest consumers try competitors in Des Peres or Webster Groves.
