“Amazing resort”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 8, 2013

You cannot beat the location of this resort. Sea and sand as far as the eye can see from the balcony of your luxurious room. We loved the room and all the little extra’s such as the huge bed, rain shower and splash pool. The beach is beautiful especially the coral rock formations and that you can walk for miles without seeing anyone. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful and make you feel at home. The food is great and not to mention the huge lobster for dinner- really yummy!!! This is the place where you can recharge and enjoy the peace and tranquillity. We will definitely be back for a visit.

What a honeymoon! What can be better than luxurious rooms, excellent service and decadent cuisines...not even to mention the view from our own private splash pool. Massinga beach lodge was a unforgettable and romantic Honeymoon destination, won't change the experience for anything! We were so blessed with hosts, chefs and room service that made the week feel like heaven. The best of all was that every person working at Massinga beach lodge made any request, their first priority in a very sincere way and not just because they had too help. I will recommend this destination for any couple; newly weds or old married couples that need their spark back, Massinga beach lodge was Paradise! Thanks so much! Nateli and Willie, xxx

My trip to Massinga was nothing less than incredible! The staff we're friendly and always willing to go out of their way to meet our demands. The food was delicious and the place itself was breathtaking. Definitely a spot to visit if you're looking for time away from the hustle and bustle of the city!

Thank you for your positive review - we did have some problems in December and it is good to note they were isolated.

I loved our stay at Massinga.
I admit that the taxi ride from the airport is rather long and bumpy (at one stage I thought maybe the shocks had gone) however when we reached the dune sand I was happy for the 4x4 ability and skillful driving. The supplies arrived the same day as us so the first meal was a little lean however every meal after that was outstanding.
We had a chalet up on the hill (family suite) which doesn't offer you much privacy (especially if you sleep with the doors open) so if you have a choice try to get the rooms below that have more privacy and splash pools they are slightly older smaller but have just as much charm. We had to bathrooms and loved the en-suit's big shower area.
The resort currently operates on generator power so expect some restriction in terms of air conditioning and lighting if you want to read at night or want to make coffee outside of the generator hours. The good news, for those of you that enjoy these luxuries, is that they are already talking about getting electricity to the resort.

The chalets themselves are lovely, the staff got out of their way to please but for me the best part of the resort is the magnificant beach and beach bar area. I tried out the freestyle kayak, waves were a little rough that day so I didn't get too far but it was great fun. The beach also has these coral stones which make for great photographs. You feel like you have the beach to yourself and locals are friendly in this area.

If you like pristine tranquility then this is certaintly a place to try, we loved it.
I'm not so sure it's the best conference facility however think it would be a great wedding location.

From the resort you can arrange to go diving or snorkeling. The snorkeling is done at 5 fingers which is 5 coral fingers however the water churms a little when the sea is pumping so try to go when the sea is calmer.

Thanks to the staff , we had a great time.

Room Tip: The rooms on the lower level - they offer more privacy and have splash pools

Thank you for your very constructive and detailed review. Very useful and applicable.

The two room types are quite distinct in that the Ocean Front Deluxe Rooms are designed with Romantics in mind and the Ocean View Junior Suites further back are well suited and affordable Family units.

As far as the conferencing goes - yes, we do not offer standard facilities, least of all due to the power and poor mobile coverage - but this spot is ideal for weddings and incentive breaks away from distractions.

We stayed there as a large group for our year end get away. The hotel is very well positioned with amazing sea views. The rooms are either large family rooms or more smaller units, the smaller units have a pool and are closer to the sea. if you have a choice pick these. The room I got was surprising very dark at night with little to no lights in the room making it difficult to read a book just before the lights for the whole complex go out. Some simple bedside lamps would go a long way to addressing this. I also noticed at breakfast the next morning talking to friends that I was missing items in my room, like a remote control for the air conditioner and no communication equipment. The room it self is big and would make a great family room.

The food was average. the day we arrived was really basic and not great everyone complained. Choice of wine was a joke lets just say you have no choice on wine. The bar and food area was surprisingly small and if the hotel were to be full with most rooms having more than one person in them there is no way that these areas could handle the volume of people. The pool area was great next to the beach and we enjoyed this a lot. The pool by the bar is way to small with maybe 5 people max to be comfortable. Breakfast was serviced late, you had to keep going back to the table to see what had arrived from the kitchen on the second day this improved though.

People were clearly trying hard when it came to service and were friendly, but if you want to be a upmarket resort you need to get experienced people to run and manage the place, this was missing.

If you stay more than two days or have kids I noticed there is simply nothing to do. You can't go fishing, there are no beach sports, not water sports that I could see what does one do for a week at such a place? Relax and do nothing but I can't see many people paying this kind of money for this.

The air conditioner on the bus that transported us from the airport to the hotel was not working and in summer this was one hot drive. I note from other reviews that this is a permanent feature of the bus and was not just a once off not working situation.

Overall this is not a cheap hotel and there are similar priced hotels closer to Maputo with just as great views but substantially better in terms of food, service and rooms! We left booking for such a large group till the last minute and this was the only hotel in Mozambique that could handle our size group in peak season, this should say it all. There is much work to do here to be a 4 star hotel its more a 2 star at present.

Room Tip: Firstly for this price look elsewhere in Moz there is better value but if you want to stay here go f...

Thank you for your detailed comments.

We sincerely regret your unhappy experience and confirm that we are addressing every issue raised to ensure that guests get real value for money and so that we surpass the expectations one would have when visiting a 4-star beach lodge in Mozambique.

We are closed for the month of February in anticipation of the rainy season and will reopen with many enhancements.

Power supply is unfortunately an issue since the Lodge is so remote and far from the main powerlines. Notwithstanding that, solar lights should and will be available; we are addressing the whole food concept with exciting plans to roll out soon; our transfer bus is currently in South Africa to have the aircon repaired.

The location makes boat launching off the beach very difficult and therefore the choice of water-sports offered is limited. However, the good news is that we have teamed up with a lodge nearby, a road transfer is requried, but that does have a location which enables watersports including water-skiing.

Spent a week at Massinga and our intention was to get away from it all, including mobile phones, which certainly was achieved. The location and beach is fantastic and really worth the 2 hour trip from the airport. The chalets are also great and very comfortable. The staff seem to try very hard but service and catering will need to be improved to qualify as a 4 star. But as a get away from it all it certainly does not disapoint.

Room Tip: Chalets further from the reception are more peaceful but all rooms well appointed.

Thank you for taking the time to post a review, particularly your comment that the 2 hour transfer is well rewarded.

We are pleased to confirm that we are addressing the whole food experience which was unfortunately not consistent during our busy holiday season.

We found the service very friendly , the rooms were HUGE, very nice.
The food was great although the restaurant was looking a bit like a barn , i believe this was because they had just started to redecorate it. Great place for families and couples. We were travelling with another couple from Australia and loved the place especially the cove and beach bar
