this hotel is usually pretty pricey - but i it is nice - and they have a free shuttle to the airport that gets you there in 5 minutes!

the breakfast is a good deal - cook to order omeletes and nice selection of items.

I have stayed here a couple times because it saved me a day's cost of having a rental car. KCI rental cars fees are the highest in the country!

Positives:

VERY comfortable bed. Most everything in the room felt new and clean. There is a decent workout room on site. Nice location right at the Airport for the most part.

Negatives:

As mentioned ... VERY small room and bathroom. One wall in the bathroom was showing some wear. The pool and hot tub weren't the greatest with the hot tub looking like one you would purchase for your home. It also wasn't filled when we were there. The general area around the hotel -- parking lots, entry ways, etc -- seemed dumpy, Trash, cigarette butts (all Marriotts are non-smoking now) seemed to little a lot of the area. Parking lot was a little dark in places as well.

------------------------------

Overall this was not a bad stay in the least ... rooms are clean for the most part and you cannot beat the beds.

Property is located on the grounds of MCI (known in KC as KCI) Airport so a great location if your needs place you there. If your plans have you downtown, this is probably not the place for you.

Hotel is an older Marriott, but recently renovated with new carpet, fixtures, paint, etc. They do have the upgraded Marriott beds so that aspect is above average.

The main drawback to this property is the room size, most are quite small. You can barely push the desk chair between the TV and the end of the bed (king) with a similar size issue on the sides of the bed. Bathroom is likewise small, with the door barely clearing the toilet. Try to get a corner room if possible (those are slightly larger) or a club floor room which have vaulted ceilings that help open the room up. Note that there are two towers, the club floor is the top floor (9th) of the north tower. You cannot access that floor from the south tower, you would have to walk to the north tower first, then take the elevator up (tip for those that have lounge access granted)

Room has always been clean, and in good repair. I have always been upgraded to the club floor, which has a fridge in each room, but most rooms on lower floors do not. Employees have been very friendly and efficient. There is plenty of free parking onsite, and they offer park/fly packages which can save you quite a bit if you had planned on using airport parking instead.

A/C performance is marginal as they have the original central system still in place (there is a sign next to the thermostat telling you to shut it off if the room is too hot or cold as the system has two settings, heat and cool...the thermostat in the room only controls the fan).

Hotel is geared toward business travelers & convention business and there is nothing within walking distance of the property for food, etc. You can hop on I29 or 435 and reach food/gas/entertainment facilities in 5-10 minutes.

Overall I would recommend this property if your travels have you needing to be close to the airport. If you have business/leisure needs downtown, you would be much better off choosing one of the downtown properties instead (Marriott, Hilton President, Hotel Phillips are all good choices for downtown).

A fine Marriott very close to KMCI. Excellent staff, well-trained, supervised and managed. Smaller rooms than some other Marriotts, but perfectly adequate for the single business traveler. The restaurant is better than most hotel restaurants.

This is a wonderful airport hotel. If you are arriving in KC and need to spend a night or two close to the airport - this is the place. Front desk staff is very professional and helpful. Rooms are clean - but not altogether spacious, but quiet, surprisingly. Excellent breakfasts.

One of the better airport hotels I've been to. We got stuck overnight when bad weather cancelled a connecting flight. The hotel had a reasonable rate for a last-minute booking.

Good things:
- Clean, up-to-date rooms
- Service was polite, helpful
- Nice view of a man-made lake. We couldn't enjoy it much due to bad weather...
- Small indoor pool, workout room
- Convenient to the airport

Things to improve:
- The airport shuttle driver was incredibly helpful but the hotel needs to run more shuttles at peak times. There was a long line to get on a shuttle.
- Rooms were a bit small, but again above average for an airport hotel.

I booked a stay at the Kansas City Airport Marriott for a quick weekend visit. Because I am a Marriott Gold Elite member, I was offered a free Saturday night stay if I paid for the preceding Friday night. I was quoted a good rate of $109 for the Friday night stay, and it included the breakfast buffet for two each morning.

I stayed at this hotel many years ago, and it appears that Marriott has spent some money significantly upgrading it. This hotel was built in the late sixties or early seventies, and it was constructed in a modular prefabricated fashion, which was a popular (and cheap) technique at the time. That aside, most of the public areas have been remodeled, and are up to current Marriott standards with excellent and comfortable furnishings.

The guest rooms are small by US midwest hotel standards, but they have been remodeled and now have the new Marriott linens and furniture. The bathroom was microscopic but functional, and all of the plumbing, hardware, and fixtures (except for the tub) have been replaced with new, modern equivalents.

We arrived late Friday night, and were checked in promptly even though there was a crowd of Southwest airlines employees waiting to check-in at the front desk. All of the hotel employees were helpful and friendly, and seemed to be genuinely interested in making sure that their guests have a pleasant stay. Definitely no problems there.

Sadly, the breakfast buffet was well below Marriott standards. The food quality was good, but there was a very limited selection. Had it not been included in our rate, I would have balked at paying $13 for what was offered. Our server was pleasant and attentive on Saturday morning when there were very few people in the restaurant, but on Sunday morning the restaurant was so busy that it was impossible to get anything (drinks, silverware, napkins, salt/pepper, sugar, etc.) after you were initially seated by the hostess. Also, the few things that were on the buffet were not replenished timely by the cooks, and this caused a tacky yet amusing display of guests queueing and eating directly at the buffet instead of the tables. I suppose this can be attributed to bad restaurant management with too few servers, which, unfortunately, is more common than not (and not just at Marriott Hotels, either). My advice is to skip the breakfast buffet unless it is included with your room rate.

Guest parking is free at the hotel, but for some reason (never discovered) half of the lot was blocked off during my visit, and the other, open half was filled to capacity. Unless this was a temporary change, be prepared to hunt for a parking space if you arrive late in the evening.

The check-out and bill reconciliation process is always irritating when I use the Marriott Gold Elite offer mentioned above. Invariably, the hotel charges me for the free Saturday night stay, and it takes about 10 minutes of detailed explaining (and occasional arguing) to get the front desk to understand how the offer is supposed to work. After that, another 10 minutes is consumed by removing the charge from my bill and figuring out how to record it for the hotel accounting department. Sheesh! I wish Marriott would send out a memo (or something!) to their hotels explaining how this Gold Elite offer should work. Seems like a simple fix to keep their best customers happy.

This Marriott has a few minor flaws, but it is, overall, a nice hotel to stay in if you have business or pleasure plans in KC north of the river.
