“Not Bad...”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 18, 2008

Stayed at KC Plaza Embassy Suites during a weekend get-away with the kids. It was ok. Older property. Rooms were clean and nicely furnished. Small bathroom with the sink outside in bedroom, so when someone was sleeping, you had to go into bedroom to use bathroom and/or sink. As others have noted, the doors to balcony were sealed. With 2 young children I immediately realized it's because of the large spaces between the railings, a child could easily fall through, so I had no problem with the sealed door. They were also doing some work on the front entry, so you had to enter though the parking garage. Parking was a bit tight, with an old underground garage with small spaces. Breakfast was ok. VERY crowded on weekend mornings after 8:30. They did have a cook making made to order omlettes and eggs...if you wanted to wait in line. The rest was the usual hotel buffet standards: eggs, bacon, pancakes, toast/pastry station, fruit, cereal, juices and coffee. Staff was pleasant but we had to call the front desk twice at 4am to quiet down some REALLY loud, drunk people above us. They ignored our first request to send security up to quiet them down. When I called the 2nd time and was much "stronger" in my request, they did send someone up and we were able to get back to sleep. It's a great location to the Country Club shopping area, although it was too cold to walk with the kids when we were there, it's an easy walk in nice weather. The indoor pool was nice, but it needs to have some mildew cleaned off tiles and the water was a little cold for the kids to swim very long. Price was ok. All in all, the hotel was decent, for an older property, and we liked having a mini kitchen and 2 rooms. However, I'd probably try another hotel next time just to see if there is something better in the same price range. I wasn't overly impressed nor totally disappointed...it was neutral as far as a hotel experience goes. It was clean and comfortable, which is my most important criteria. If you want to stay downtown, see my review a month ago on the Holiday Inn Aladdin. It's a different type of hotel (more of an "adult" hotel) but I was much more pleased with that hotel.

ject: embassy suites
Location: Kansas City, Missouri, United States, North America
Title: Great Service
ID#: 21362143

This is an older but updated Embassy. The folks at the Hilton President (Downtown K.C.)could learn a thing or two about customer service from these folks. After checking in an employee brought me some mints and a thank you letter for being an honors member. A welcome call ascertaining if all was okay was placed to my room. Just the little things that make a difference. Rebecca at the eve. reception was wonderful. After a horrible experience last week at the full service Hilton President, downtown Kansas City, this was a very refreshing stay. This was a great value for 149 a night, with free parking. I do wish Hilton properties would quit charging for internet. Save 100 a night and skip the Hilton and stay here.

My girlfriends and I decided to take a shopping trip to KC and wanted to stay on, or near the Plaza. We chose the Embassy Suites near the plaza and had a great time. The hotel was clean, the beds and room termp. were comfortable, the breakfast exceeded my expectations (step up from a continental breakfast) and we received great service. The shuttle was convenient to the Plaza since it was a bit chilly to walk. And when we wanted to go to the P&L District for the night out, a cab was ready and waiting.

On this leisure vacation we had looked forward to staying at this property because we liked it so much the last time. They had freshly renovated the rooms, however the renovation included bolting the patio doors shut on the rooms, the room temperature was uncomfortable after several alterations of the thermostat, which the cool October air could have cured easily. Our bathroom still had soap and open shampoo in it so we called housekeeping and they prompty restored it to new. When I asked about the patio is said that engineering department could take bolt off and ask the front desk to dispatch them to do so...That couldnt have been further from the truth. The front desk agent said it was "sealed" permanently? Clearly no one was on the same page.

  • Liked — The free cook to order breakfast and drinks in the evening.
  • Disliked — The Patios were locked

We stay at Embassy Suites all over the country and in my opinion they are the best for families. I normally love them. This one wasn't really set up nicely. The bathroom instead of being inbetween the Living room and bedroom was in the bedroom. So no privacy for Mom and Dad at night. Also the bathroom was small, and the sink outside in the Bedroom of all places. The kitchen area was large and nice though. My balcony was open but I was on the 3rd Floor. I heard others on higher floors were closed. I did ask and they said they will be locking all balconies in the near future due to changing local regulations (they are dangerous if you leave young kids out there alone (but who would?). They have a major pigion problem with nests and poop all over the place. They keep the rooms balconies clean but the ones in the hallways (4 on each of 12 floors) are full of poop, many have A/C or Heating things on them with poop all over it. Dead babies and egg shells all over them. Some look like they were cleaned in a few years.

We stayed over a week and expected and upgrade. We were told the all rooms were the same but not true there are nice rooms on the 12th floor, one being vacant.

The store was joke, closed most of the time. The day lady constantly goes on breaks and closes the store while she does this. 20 minute bathroom break. Breakfast was at the bar and the guy kept having the eggs fall on the ground due to space problems. The bread area wasn't refilled as often as it should, need to get there early for the good baked goods.

Room service was ok, better then most Embassy's but nothing to write home about. On the last night (saturday) there was no parking on site and they wanted me to go into a parking lot a block away with no guard. They claimed there was one but he was on a chair in the regular lot sitting there all evening. Took an hour to get a spot that night. Also one morning we woke up to find a ding in our rented car and I asked about security tapes and they said they couldn't do anything - Why NOT? Others hotels would of!!

The managers reception was ok but the lady making the drinks didn't get when people didn't want to talk to her and would chat away even when it was obvious to most that we weren't interested.

The location is ok you like a city enviroment. Walk to the plaza shopping, but many stores are closed now.

Wouldn't go there again and will be writing a letter of complaint to Hilton!

We stayed at the hotel during July 2008 for 3 days. Found the hotel to be clean and the service was fine. We stayed on the 10th floor and the look to below was beautiful with all the live plants hanging down. The free happy hour was good, drinks were ok, I'd reccomend the beer over the margaritas. The free breakfast was good as well. The make your own omlette was great with plenty of ingredients to choose from.
I would stay again.

Stayed here the first week in August and had a pretty nice time.
Hotel is in a decent location very close to The Plaza. (lots of shopping and restaurants) Check in was a breeze and so was the self parking in their parking garage. We were upgrade to an executive suite, which was very nice. Executive suite consisted of room w/ king bed, seperate living area w/ wet bar, microwave, mini fridge, closet, fireplace, tv, sofa, table w/ chair, tons of room and a conference room. (not that we used the conference room, but the kids played in it)
The room was nice. Very spacious and up to date. Nice big flat screen tv's, a very, very comfortable bed with plush pillows.
Did not attend the "managers reception" because the lines were pretty long.
The breakfast was nice though. Didnt have any problems there. Went down around 9am and everything was super....food, drinks, cleanliness and service.
I will have to agree with everyone about the elevators...they are super slow! (being on the 12th floor didnt help either)
All in all it was a nice stay and we would definitely return if we are ever in the area again!!
