“Unique Burger Joint in KC”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 5, 2011

If you are looking for fine dining, great ambiance and sophisticated clientele, this is not your place. But if you are a burger guy/gal and like to experience unique and established burger joints, this is your place. It is a small diner that hoops for lunch and late-night weekends (so said the "waitress.") I ate a single cheese burger, fries and soda. Excellent. They have chili, a broad breakfast menu including a massive burrito, and pie. I love finding these historical relics knowing they have stood the test of time -- this one for nearly 100 years.

“Want to meet that very special transient and then have a burger, you're in luck!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 6, 2011

What can I say about Town Topic that hasn't been said, good or bad for that matter.

Well, how about this, don't know how many people have tried this, I picked this tip up a while back. Have you tried their shakes? Yeah, they're damn tasty. What about their pie? Yep all the time I bet. But have you had them put a slice of the pie in the shake? Now that's where it's at. Yes, just pick a piece of pie, now chose a shake flavor accordingly and have them put the slice of pie in there and blend it up. It's ghetto fabulous, all the silky ice cream with pieces of strawberry, or coconut or what have you, and the chunks of flaky, buttery pie crust, ohhhh yeah.

I've been here more times than I can count, probably because I was stinky drunk for a good portion of those times. One of my only complaints that I can think of is the waiting and/or no room at the counter. But, what are you going to do? That, and the pinball machine is always busy when I'm there.

Nothing, that's what. You're going to shut your hole and wait for your chance to pony on up and get you a few little beefy, greasy, tender, disks of heaven. That, and a one of those pie-shakey things that I mentioned above.

“Great Little Diners for Anytime Breakfasts and Burgers!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 5, 2010

KC locals love these little downtown diners for anytime breakfasts and burgers! It is real food done right! So grab a stool at the counter and enjoy the experience. This place attracts a diverse following: from downtown minority patrons to upscale suburban professionals with their children. We especially enjoy their 2 Egg Breakfasts (with Hashbrowns and a Large Sausage Patty) and Homemade Pies. Mmm... Enjoy!

“Great Burgers in small greasy Spoon”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 29, 2009

Town Topic. HOLY COW. Best burgers I've had. They're a larger tastier meatier version of a White Kastle or Krystal burger: ultra thin with grilled onions pressed in. We made the mistake of ordering singles with cheese and were left wanting many more burgers. There's not enough room to turn around in the restaurant, and even less room in the bathroom, but well worth the location and tight squeeze.

“Burgers Like Your Grandpa Ate”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 14, 2009

Town Topic is a throwback to what a greasy spoon really means. You think James Dean pulled up on his motorcycle to some swank, faux stucco and brick place with indirect lighting and mood music? Heck no....he roared up to a diner where the burgers and fries were hot and greasy, the waitress was a bit down on her luck and the jukebox provided the ambiance.

Sit at the counter, put a buck in the Jukebox, order a cheeseburger and fries, don't pay attention to the numerous potential health-code violations (those rules are only for protecting weak people) and enjoy a damn fine meal.

Your grandfather would be proud.
