“Kind of scuzzy, but it could grow on you.”
Reviewed January 27, 2014

Staying with a friend and this was the closest place to walk to on a cold night. It was a lot smaller than I thought would be. There is a bar, a few scattered tables, and an upstairs area that was occupied by some sort of "Ladies Club" who were more than a tad hostile when I strayed into their realm. :-)

The room was not terribly clean, and the bathroom ... well, gulp, never mind.
Nice tunes were playing, but were too loud to talk over, and the place was about half-full, mostly with people eating and trying to talk.

The special was a little filet mignon for $12.95 with a side, which they said was "the same meat they have at the Plaza III" ... it wasn't the same cook, using the same oven, as what were obviously decent little steaks came out cooked WAY beyond the amount ordered, but not at sufficient heat. You could sort of tell how good they would have been if better prepared ... like, even by me on my gas grill at home. Oh, well. We also had a grilled chicken sandwich that was nice and tasty.
The servers were very friendly and two different ones showed up occasionally and alternately, not really knowing what the other had done. But, they brought beer when I asked, so there's that.

Bottom line: This is the un-Plaza spot at the Plaza. It's a little too "grody" (Word!) and a little too loud for its own good, but if I could get the chance to show that cook a few things about that steak special, they could have something here. Okay, we didn't have a burger, which is what they claim to do well, so we might drop back in once they open the patio.

“Good for a Quickie”
Reviewed January 11, 2014

Fun little pub - reminded us of some of our Irish/midlands UK haunts. Easy to find - good for snacks and nice little beer/IPA issues. No biggie but kind of fun. The upstairs "lair" is cute.

“Stood the Test of Time!”
Reviewed November 24, 2013

This restaurant has stood the test of time in the Country Club Plaza... A central location with outside seating or enjoy the many screens , inside, for viewing your favourite sport while sipping a local beer in a real " American Bar" !!! Enjoying the renowned F.P.Ott Burger or Rueben Sandwich with Onion Rings.... A great meeting place that has been around since the '70's so that should sum up the reputation of this local haunt....

“Best Philly Cheese Steak in Kansas City”
Reviewed November 5, 2013

I heard on the Radio of the best Philly Cheese Steak was at this new chain in town. Not true!! Best Philly Cheese Steak goes to Fred P Ott's Bar and Grill. Fred P Ott's is not a fancy restaurant but if you want good American Bar Food there is none better. What I like about any of their locations that the food is always good, the music is never too loud, and people are always pleasantly surprised with the quality and value. Their hamburgers are fantastic too but that is another review!

Don't get sucked in by a good advertisement! Fred P Ott's has the best Philly Cheese Steak in Kansas City.

“Needs a deep cleaning”
Reviewed August 7, 2013

I know Fred P's has been around a long time. The drinks are affordable, and if you are just hanging out for happy hour it is fine, but man there is a definite funk when you walk in the door. I wouldn't eat there for dinner. Used the restroom once and wish that i hadn't.
