There are a handful of awesome restuarants in town. Bluestem is one of my favorites, The American on a good night , and Le Fou Frog. The difference is Le Fou Frog can take you away to another world. After thirty minutes sipping on your beverage of choice, and spending time with friends, you forget your in Kansas City, and that your car is parked outside. You are truly missing out if you have not been here.

I took my wife to Le Fou Frog in the Rivermarket area of Kansas City for our 30th wedding anniversary. Le Fou Frog is the third French Restaurant we have visited in Kansas City. It has the least attractive and most out-dated decor. However, what the restaurant was lacking in decor was more than made up for by the incredible food. Our appetizer of mussels in a bay leaf cream sauce was excellent. As were our soups; mine a lobster bisque and my wife's a tomato soup infused with basil oil. Our lobster entrees were also both excellent. My wife had the twin lobster tails with a sauce of Madagascar vanilla beans pureed with champagne. Ooh-la-lah! My lobster risotto was equally splendid. A bottle of Vouvray from the Loire Valley to accompany our meal, a wonderful upside-down apple tart and a chocolate truffle to finish the meal and we had a wonderful dinner. The wait staff is attentive and the service is impeccable. We will be back. BTW, we have heard that they also have an excellent happy hour menu and this is a very popular happy hour location.

Any time anyone wants to know the best French Restaurant in town I never hesitate to recommend this long time favorite. Good wine pairings and presentation top off the food that makes you ahhhh with pleasure. Dover Sole and the professional and entertaining prep was educational too. Scallops and mushroom appetizer Mmmmm.

Don't let the outside fool you. It looks like a casual sports bar and is in the river market area.

RSVP highly recommended and available on Open Table.

A French jewel in Kansas City! We read about this restaurant in a hotel magazine. It was superb! A knowledgeable Frenchman guided us through the menu pointing out specific areas of interest including the wine and cocktail offerings. One order of stuffed sea-bass and another of the special skate fish and we were off! We ended the meal with a chocolate pot de creme

We somewhat accidently ended up at Le Fou Frog, but wow - the food and service were incredible! EVERYTHING was delicious. Here's some of the items we tried:
Coquilles St. Jacques
White Wine, Bay Scallops, Leeks, Mushrooms, Gruyere Cheese Sauce
Escargots Provençales
Half Dozen Helix Snails baked in Butter, Tomatoes, Garlic & Herbs
Steak au Poivre $38
Dry aged Kansas City strip steak seared with a cognac, green peppercorn cream sauce served with a mixed field green salad and pomme frites
Seared Diver Scallops
Plus another fish dish and an asparagus and mushroom appetizer salad
Jansen was our waiter and the service was perfect! Some of the other waiters did not seem quite as good, but we were thrilled

It's a relatively small venue and very cozy, the dress code ranged from casual to dressy, not pretentious at all.

Desserts also were great, but they also top the meal off with a homemade, melt in your mouth chocolate truffle....wow!
