“Excellent wine, excellent food, excellent service!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 20, 2006

We reserved a table at Ruth's Chris in KC last weekend for my wife's birthday and we couldn't have been more pleased. Valet parking was free (tips only) and efficient. We arrived a half hour early and were seated immediately.

Our waiter, Chris, and his assistants were outstanding. He was attentive, but not overly so, as we were clearly having a romantic dinner. He recommended a terrific red wine we hadn't tried before without trying to steer us to the most expensive bottle in the house, and the wine was great. We also chose a bottle of sparkling water.

I had escargot as an appetizer, which wasn't on the menu but which the chef had prepared that evening. It was the best I've ever had. My wife had the lobster bisque and pronounced it superb. Our salads were crisp and fresh, and our filets mignons were cooked perfectly. Gotta love those gazillion-degree plates! The potato portions were huge - we split one and could have skipped the potato altogether. The a la carte menu is pricey, but well worth it.

Arguably the best part of the meal was dessert - on the house for the birthday celebration, we ordered a creme brulee to share. Next time, we'll order two. Easily the best we'd ever tasted! We ended up spending $220 for two including a $48 bottle of wine and a $40 tip. This is not the place for an inexpensive dinner out, but for a special romantic evening, it's perfect.

“Expensive, overrated, and overdone”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 13, 2006

My husband and I celebrated Valentines a day early at Ruth's Chris Steak House. We knew it would be expensive, but wanted a great steak and a memorable meal.

Unfortnately, we ordered the filet. The server urged us to have it "butterflied" so it would cook thoroughly and not be charred on the outside (it is a thick cut of steak, and we wanted it medium well). I was concerned it might come overdone, but was assured that was never the case.

Of course, when a charred 32 dollar steak al la carte was served, we were unhappy. The sides were larger than one serving, but certainly not "huge" as many suggested. Also, 7.50 for a baked potato or mashed potatoes seemed very high.

When the server heard how displeased we were, there were vague assurances that the price would be adjusted. When the bill came, 111.000 dollars, nothing had been adjusted.

We left feeling this place was very expensive, overrrated, and the steaks, inexcusable for a steak icon, overdone.

We would not recommend this place to anyone.
