My friend and I did the free Saturday morning tour last July just for the shear novelty of it! We have toured large and small wineries in Napa region of CA and Niagara as well as Coors in Golden, CO so we thought this would be an interesting choice to expand our horizons. As a side note, I really do not drink, wine, beer or coffee (LOL) but it was fun and informative. We were surprised at the amount of people who showed up, had to be 40-50 of us that morning! They take your picture at the end and post it on facebook so you can tag yourself! I would recommend to anyone and not just coffee lovers although I am told it is some of the best kind of coffee around!

My sister came up to visit Kansas City from South Carolina and my wife and I decided to kick off a fun day in KC with a tour of "The Roasterie". The Roasterie is a small (very small!) custom coffee roaster here. These folks are serious about coffee! They have daily, hour long tour's of the facility - our tour was headed up by one of the 'cuppers' (i.e. coffee taster) and we started with a short video covering the history of the company, the history of coffee and the company's mission - providing the best darn coffee in the world. Then we visited the area where the cupper's do taste testing of all the coffee's (where we got to try our hand at taste testing) and then off to walk through the factory. Now keep in mind that the whole tour is only about 200 ft long! The Roasterie air roasts all their coffee and packages it right on site with less than an 8 hour turn around. Oh, and the wonderful smell of coffee!

Parking is a bit tight but they are just starting a new expansion project which might make that a bit easier. They are located more or less in the middle of KC and are easily accessible. After our tour, we meandered down to the Plaza area, hit the shops and had a great lunch.

My husband and I went on this tour during our recent visit to Kansas City. It was our first coffee tour and it did not disappoint. We learned all about the company, history of coffee, cultivation and process involved with making java. It was very interesting and informative. They also have a nice gift shop full of coffee treats, hardware and samples. The staff were quite friendly and their passion for coffee is quite evident.
It is definitely worth going when you are in Kansas City!

Every weekday at 10 you can go on a tour and try some coffee samples for free at the factory. Great education on why their way of doing it is the best! Go to their website and click on the link to tour for their location and the number to call. Fun!
