“Happy Lunch”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 23, 2013

Friendly place...staff and other guests! Small, spartan, eclectic retro interior. The food was good! I had the smashed meatball sandwich and loved it. My wife had chicken salad and described it to be superb. Not too juicy and perfectly spiced.

“Fresh, Quirky, Fun Food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 21, 2013

The Happy Gillis Cafe and Hangout near Columbus Park and the River Market in Kansas City is a fun place to have breakfast or lunch and hang out. Their homemade pimento cheese sandwich, which they call "The Blvd. Cheese Melt" has Pale Ale Pimento Cheese, House Pickles and American Prosciutto and is a meal in itself. But its not the only quirky item on their menu. There's Roasted Butternut Squash with Ricotta, Onion-Walnut Tapenade and Arugula;a BLT with Egg Salad; House Cured Hot Smoked Salmon with Goat Cheese Boursin and Egg; along with eclectic soups and salads.
The atmosphere is light and homey. The waitstaff/ cooks are friendly. The prices are reasonable. All in all, a great place to grab a unique meal with fresh ingredients.

“Eclectic decor, Good Food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 11, 2012

A very unique place to have lunch. They had an interesting variety of soup and sandwiches that used fresh ingredents. I came with a group of seven and there wasn't a bite left so obviously we all enjoyed our food.

“Good!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 15, 2012

We were excited to try this little restaurant and the food wasn't bad, I just wasn't thrilled with my cheese sandwich. The flavors were good, but, for a panini, I expected it to be served at a warmer temperature. But I love how they mix ingredients that I would have never expected (carrots and cauliflower on my sandwich and egg salad on my husband's BLT). The Italian sweet pea soup was really good. Neat place and location, but itty-bitty. We would have been disappointed had there not been any seating (luckily we were able to sit at the window seats).

“If you want breakfast with a "Spin" this is it”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 13, 2012

I love this place, not only for the food but also the decor. The food is local and taste so fresh. Everyone time I have gone they are just back there (in the open) preparing the best tasting breakfast/brunch and adding love to it. You might look at the menu and wonder about a few of the items but whatever you order you will be sure to love, regardless of the price tag!
