We just made a quick stop to admire this beautiful building which has been wonderfully renovated. No fee to look around.

We happened through union station on a late night walk through to the sky-walk to Grunaeur Austrian/German restaurant. I was Astounded by the breathtaking Artistry of the Grand Hall with its 95 foot ceiling and beautiful chandeliers. I would highly recommend late night exploration where you may enjoy the echoing beauty virtually alone.

This has to be the most gorgeous stately train station in the world, but one that is used little unlike those in Europe where there's a frenetic buzz of people and culture just like how it would had been here years ago. America's love for the car in place of trains and trollys destroyed the original culture we had like that Europe still maintains despite being ultra modern. It all looks brand new in mint condition despite it's age with the most classical style. Because you too are probably not taking the trains while touring America (yet) like you do in Europe, you can park your car for free at the WW1 monument on the hill and walk down to Union Station.

America still has great tourist infrastructure like that of Europe for when these services go back online. We will once again have a frenetic buzz of pedestrianized traffic, culture, street musicians, and tourism. There are like only 2 Amtrak trains a day and I seen one guy walking out of the station with his bags, but this place is a sleeping giant for now. It's one of the world's greatest railway stations, but after you've traveled and are used to thousands of people walking in such public places, it's strangely odd to see such a lovely place be void of people and action. I think it would be so worth it if our country pushed an initiative to promote rail tourism, because well, this is one beautiful and fascinating country we actually have that's only achieving a tiny % of it's potential. I and many other people have recommended Ray Tutaj Jr.'s modern folk song to Amtrak to promote an initiative to put back great rail travel as a practical way to travel and experience culture, but they aren't buying it yet. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZJv7kAMUnnA

A visit to Union Station is well worth the appreciation of a nice place and the history behind it. I wished the fountain out front was running, but like so many other things, the economic and cultural decline is turning things off.

This a very impressive example of the glory days of train travel and how it can be renovated for modern times. Stunning architecture. One of the highlights of my trip. Have in drink in Pierpont's. One of the classiest bars I've ever seen.

Union Station has so much rich history. The main hall is absolutely beautiful! Even the bathrooms were neat! (Don't forget to ask where to find the bullett holes) Science city as a fantastic compliment to Union Station. The IMAX theater is phenomenal. Only complaint- everything costs money. No where inside Union Station to grab a quick lunch for the kids. They put a Panera-like restaurant- then i'll give it 5 stars!
