They had a display of how tall a stack of $100 bills would be to make a million, trillion, etc., how heavy a bar of gold would be and you can actually see the workers use a large machine (sortor) to bundle the bills to together and place them on a cart. My kid puts in a dollar in a machine and I'm thinking "o.k., why is she putting in a dollar just to get a shiny new quarter" To my surprise, she received back 4 shiny new quarters. There is also a wall of sovenours to purchase and the prices were very reasonable. Don't forget to grab your free bag of shredded money estimated to be $165 worth. My neighbors son who pet sit for us enjoyed that. Don't forget to bring your driver's license. I had to walk all the way back to the car. Use your cell phone to listen to the informations when you put in the appropriate display numbers.

We mainly stopped in here because it is just outside the WW1 museum and my oldes son had a teacher tell him it was very interesting. The visit is free, which never hurts. Security is very tight, but they were friendly. We got to pick up apr 1/2 Million Dollars in gold and saw money stacked to represent 1 through 40 million dollars. It was a quick, enjoyable stop.

Our family enjoyed our time at the Money Museum. It's free, so you don't have to worry about getting your 'money's worth.' But, it's all about money. From watching staff count and check bills to the introduction video that explains what the Fed does and why KC became one of the Federal Reserve Bank locations, this site is interesting for adults, but also for our 8-year-old. Even our 4-year old enjoyed most of it.

It's self-guided and takes a few minutes to get 'cleared' to enter. Be sure to bring your drivers licence and expect to go through security as if you're headed for a plane at KCI (minus the radmom pat-downs). Once you are in, you can walk around and even see the vault where the money is stored.

When you leave, you get a bag of shredded money that was retired at the facility.

We only stayed about an hour, but our 8-year-old put this near the top of his 'things to do in KC' list.

Our family stopped here while on vacation because we were in the area. They had a few smaller displays. We got to see the Federal Reserve vault, which was really cool!
Be prepared to hand over your ID when you get in the building before you get in.

Go! Go alone. Go with children. It's interesting, and it is a topic we all participate in. Watch money being printed, transported, and stored in vaults by robotics. Feel the weight of a kilo gold bar. Put your face on a 10,000 dollar bill. Design your own currency. And don't forget to pick up your own free bag of money (shredded, of course!).
