This is one of my favorite hotels in the entire Midwest. Old school charm, great service, excellent restaurant, across the street from the Plaza, centrally located, superb front desk. Ive stayed here many times and have"never" been disappointed!

Room tip: ask for a room over looking the Plaza.

A long weekend with friends and visiting with local pals, plus shopping and museums - and three lovely nights at the Raphael. I had stayed here decades ago and the upgrades are a great pleasure. I love buildings of this vintage, and the comfy luxury is great fun - note the sofa pillows in the lobby, for instance. I upgraded to a suite, and it was as nice as what I was getting at the Plaza in New York in the '90's, and of course considerably less expensive.

Front desk staff warm and pleasant, as were the gentlemen at the door - where valet parking is free! - and even the housekeeping staff as they passed in the hall. Great bed, comfortable sofa, lots of pillows, a light in the closet (bonus points there), and good-sized rooms. Big towels and plenty of them.

The restaurant seems to have a number of business breakfast meetings, although it's not noisy people; it just makes staff pay attention and allow diners their own pace. A nice room, some of it sunny, other parts darker, perhaps a blessing to the hung over...

Coffee and tea in the lobby in the morning, with go-cups and lids and no fake cream. At night, there was hot chocolate in an urn to greet us after an evening out, a nice touch. This is an easy place to be nostalgic for.

Room tip: Not all suites overlook the plaza.

Clean and comfortable. Breakfast was yummy. Book online, you get a better rate. Located across from the plaza, an upscale outdoor retail area with name brand shops and restaurants. We are looking forward to our next visit!

My husband and I won a gift certificate to the Raphael Hotel in a raffle. It was one of the nicest hotels I have ever been in. We upgraded on our own money to a suite with a view of the Plaza lights. The view was amazing. The room was spacious, clean and so comfortable. We spent the day/night shopping at the plaza and had dinner at the Capital Grille. Breakfast the next morning at the Chaz was amazing. Not a buffet, but pick anything from a menu (it was included in our room). We had such a good time that we are thinking about doing this 1-2 times a year for our anniversary and again at Christmas time to do some Christmas shopping! Loved it and the people were very friendly and helpful.

Room tip: I would highly recommend a view of the plaza.

By the end of a long travel week in mostly rural Missouri, all I want is an actual luxury hotel with great service, clean bathrooms, good linens, and decent food and wine. The Raphael is not only a beautifully appointed, historic hotel, but it also has an exceptional restaurant (Chaz), the halls are quiet (at night), offers free valet (if that's important to you), has an excellent (small to medium-sized) gym, and superior staff service. The staff is absolutely the best in the city. I usually walk over to the massive country club plaza area for dinner, but I was donezo this week. I noticed that the Chaz offered a $40 two-course in room dining option which includes wine or a cocktail. My general rule is to never order room service, but they gave me a beautiful 2-room suite and I had a lot of work to do. I felt like enjoying this place a little. Long story short, they brought a beautiful salad (ate it too fast to picture), beef tenderloin cooked perfectly, and a glass of red wine which I figured would be whatever happened to be open in the bar, but was surprisingly delicious. And they brought me a creme brûlée for free!

I have stayed here three times for work; sometimes it's too pricey to expense. Got lucky this week. I was all-in on this place based on previous experiences based solely on the free breakfast for Marriott Gold members. I'm assuming that will be equally amazing tomorrow morning. Be sure to save 30-45 minutes to enjoy it before you check out.

It really ISN'T all about the food, but between that, the service, and quality of the hotel itself, this is my favorite hotel in Kansas City. Hope you have the same experience. ---Meredith
