There is something so tranquil and yet invigorating about being in Kansas City with all of its wonderful fountains. The Country Club Plaza area is especially well endowed with bubbling offerings that provide cooling visual respite on a hot summer's day.

The fountains are nice, but the best ones we saw were at Kaufman. The ones throughout the city are ok but not nearly on the level we expected.

Kansas City has over 150 fountains and sculptures around the city. Initially many fountains were needed to water horses but after cars came along the city recognized how much joy these water sculptures provided so many people gave them to the city. Kansas Citians value the fountains and are often raising money to restore those that have restoration needs. I pass by the fountains in the Plaza area on a regular basis and I always want to take time to look at them but their are fountains all over the city that are worthy of viewing. I found www.kcfountains.org has a list of them.

They are everywhere - gargantuan Greek carvings to pocket-park bubblers. And, most impressively, the various inter-woven cities that make up KC metro do a great job of keeping them in repair. Just look around, you'll find 3 or 4

The loop around the park is one mile...I stop by the fountain when I have finished running and cool off in the spray. It's always beautiful.
