“Amazing.”

This place is so cool. You start by watching a short video that gives you some background about the place. Such a cool story - fascinating! It really wasn't that long ago. They are still working on bring items "out". Time well spent - soooo cool.

“History at its best!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 31, 2013

I LOVED this museum and can't wait to go back!
There is a curator for part of the museum then you watch a 15-20 minute movie and then the best part....ok I won't spoil it for you! After the surprise you get to look around at your own pace.

“So interesting!”

The whole story of the Steamboat Arabia and how it was discovered and unearthed is fascinating as are all of the artifacts that were onboard and are now on display. Unlike any museum I have ever visited....

“Step into the westward migration”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 30, 2013

This is one must see that isn't obvious from street level. It sits in an uninteresting looking building on the grounds of the City Market in the North part of downtown KC. There is trolley transportation from downtown to the Market.

The museum is below ground and is the same size as the rescued paddle-wheeler from which all the displayed treasures came. There is a short, but well done introductory presentation in which groups are told the story of the Arabia.

There are live demonstrations of the restoration process that has been used to return the treasures sunk in mud for about a century to their pristine condition. Great stop...and it's cheap. I've been there several times with guests from out of town.

“You Gotta Do This One”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 30, 2013

Fascinating! The contents of an entire steamboat from the 1800's. Literally tons of well preserved stuff from boots/clothing (anything not made of vegetable fibre) to construction supplies to dishes and all other home making stuff. Check the web site then go as you will not see this anywhere else in the world.
