This park notified us the night before we were to go camping via e-mail that their water had broken.

We called in the morning to cancel and the agent(s) on the phone were belligerent and rude. All we wanted was a refund for our full hookup site or to move our reservation to a date in the future when the water was fixed.

Instead, they cancelled our reservation and gave us NO REFUND.

I've never been so insulted - we are avid park goers, and have been on a mission to camp in every state park in Missouri - but this park... and these agents.

It's unbelievable.

Save your money, camp somewhere else -- and don't give them the satisfaction of your business.

Trail of Tears State Park is beautiful anytime of the year, but when the leaves change colors in the fall, it is truly a sight to behold! One of the prettiest state parks in Missouri. A must stop if you are in this area.

This is the location where the part of the Cherokee Nation's Trail of Tears crossed the Mississippi while being relocated from Georgia, Alabama, and Tennessee to Oklahoma. At the visitor's center, there are displays and a short documentary that tell the story of the sad chapter in our nation's history. There is also educational displays on the flora and fauna in the park. There are also hiking trails, a campground, a boat launch into the Mississippi River, and scenic overlooks with historical markers. A nice spot for families, history buffs, and nature lovers.

The best part of this park is actually the visitor's center and the best part of the visitor's center, hands down, is the movie. DEFINITELY watch the movie. The Indian "princess" burial site is overblown. The lake is a standard stagnant lake: rather murky. However, the beach area at the lake is nice. The park has a very good view of the Mississippi. It also has river access. The picnic areas are well-maintained. It has extensive trails which we did not explore because of time constraints. As you drive through this park, much of it is simply forest. I would have given it only a 3, but the excellent movie on the forced migration bumped it up to a four. Driving through the park I would think would be more impressive in the fall.

Great shady trails of varying lengths, some with great views of the Mighty Mississippi! Lots of poison ivy, on each side of the trail, so put long pants on kiddos. The look-out pictured here is wonderful. Worth the drive. There is a rustic winery with livce music on the weekends about a mile away from the entrance to this park, if you need to wind down after all those trails.

The view from the outlook is breathtaking of Illinois and of the Mississippi River.
Best time to visit is Autumn when the leaves change color.

This is one of our favorite Missouri State Parks. It has scenic views and overlooks, two campgrounds, a lake with a sand beach, several miles of hiking trails, and a well appointed welcome center. Wildlife abounds, especially deer. If you enjoy touring this park, please vote. Thanks, and enjoy your visit!

We visited on a very foggy day. It was beautiful even though we could not see the river from the vantage points. The ride through the park was neat and the changing leaves were beautiful to see. We could not go to the visitor center because it was closed the week we were there, but the park itself was interesting and neat enough by itself.
