“A beautiful church”
Reviewed January 13, 2012

The church is beautiful with wonderful stained glass windows and a very high quality set of paintings depicting the stations of the cross. If you like historic churches with that old fashioned feeling but in a genuinely Australian setting, this is the place for you. Stop by and light a candle and appreciate the hard work of those early settlers and convicts.

The graveyard is also well worth a visit with many historic (and sometimes heartbreaking) grave stones. Sadly many stones are falling over and some major league work is needed to save our history.

“I Was horrified watching the old graves just roll down the hill and smash!”
Reviewed June 6, 2010

Why isn't anyone doing something about these old graves on the hill, they are falling over and smashing, just sliding down the hill. We will never get this again. How could the church let this decay happen!!!! Surely the government would help it they new about this devastation. I can't sleep with this knowledge. If anyone can find out what we can do to help please, please let me know as soon as possible. Lets keep this history preserved.
Yours Sincerely, Gaye Russ. Queensland.

“Peace and Tranquility”
Reviewed August 16, 2006

Less than 5 mins walk from the village centre and standing on a hill above the well known Richmond Bridge, St John's RC church is a lovely example of colonial architecture.

The doors are wide open all day to welcome visitors who may wish to pray or just absrob the architecture and atmosphere. Candles buring by the alter; put a dollar in the box and light one yourself for a loved one.

The day that Helen and I visited, the orgainist was playing away up in the loft. We went up the stairs and met him and he told us all about the history of the church, the organ and the village of Richmond. The people of Richmond delight in telling visitors all about their wonderfull village. A walk around the graveyard looking at the ages of the souls burried there gives one an insight into the harsh history that the inhabitants of the village have endured.

As you walk back down the hill to towards the river you hear the joyous sounds of the kids playing in the grounds of the Catholic primary school that sits under the church.
