Well done to all who have preserved this place.
Loved that I could get the experience of what it may be like to have been here, but I could also check your records to see if any ancestors may have passed through these doors.

Thank Jessica G

Expected it to be bigger after reading reviews. Cost was ok though. Solitary cells were daunting, could imagine how awful and cold it would have been. Very sad. Worth a look though.

Commentary over a PA greets you as you approach the building, giving some wonderful history before you even step inside. A small gift shop is situated just. Inside the door, and you buy your ticket there. We had a tourism brochure which offered a 10% discount, and for $8 (regular fee) for an adult or $20 family it is well worth the admission. Stepping through the door into the enclosed courtyard immediately gives a sense of being blocked from the outside world. It is possible to enter most rooms, and the display boards tell the story of the gaol's history, and exhibits of artefacts add to the atmosphere. Walking on well-worn steps and floors and entering tiny cells certainly made me glad I wasn't an inmate! Of interest to genealogy buffs would be the extensive lists of inmates, gaolers, javelins, soldiers etc associated with the jail. Don't expect re-enactments or flashy displays; just a nice opportunity to wander through history.

Very interesting & a bit creepy old buildings that were once a goal. Some good artifacts displayed, good commentary and signage. Worth a visit.

Many attractions are overpriced but this wasn't, and well worth it with children 14 & 10. Good information, gift shop and signage
