“Pleasant stay to end our trip”
Reviewed December 16, 2013

We stayed at Tara's farmstay on the last night of our Tassie trip. With Richmond being close to Hobart Airport, it was only a 20 minute drive the next morning. The unit accommodation suited us perfectly with all the amenities and spotlessly clean. Tara went out of her way to make sure we were comfortable and nothing was too much trouble.

The farm itself is in a picturesque setting and we enjoyed an evening walk to the river and also helping ourselves to the berries from the trees. It was a lovely relaxing end to our holiday. I would recommend Tara's Richmond Farmstay to others and stay here again.

Tara's was our first farmstay experience and we had a pleasant time during our 2-day stay there.

We booked the Sugarloaf apartment which was extremely well kept and clean. There were two bedrooms and can easily sleep 4 persons. The property is just a 5-10 minutes drive from Richmond town which in itself is picturesque with quite a few historic buildings.

Though it wasn't a very big farm, there were quite a number of animals on it. Feeding time was undeniably the highlight of the stay. All of the animals were pretty friendly, especially Blackie the puppy and Charlie the sheep who followed Tara the whole hour as she brought us around and showed us the farm.

Breakfast was excellent as well with warm bread (did you make it yourselves?) and excellent homemade jams. We especially like the lemon butter jam. The 2013 Zephyr Pinot noir was also pretty good considering it was still so young! The only grouse we have is the water which comes on hot and cold and takes a while to adjust to get it right.

All in all, we would recommend Tara's to anyone looking for a farmstay experience in Tasmania!

Thank you for taking to time to write a review. We're pleased you enjoyed the farm animals and your 2 days with us. I am sorry that you had a problem with our water temperature. This may have occurred because being a rural property, we do not have mains connected water and thus must rely on a pressure pump to move water from our rainwater tanks to the house and apartments. At some times - for example if someone is using the shower whilst others are washing up or using the washing machines, the high demand for water can result in surges which affect the water temperature. Hopefully your comments and my explanation will be read by others and help them to have a better showering experience whilst here :). We hope to see you again one day!

From the time we arrived, Tara was warm, welcoming and made us feel like this was our home away from home. Child friendly is an understatement as Tara made her animals and feeding times accessible throughout the day. Also on offer were many toys and the play area that she and her family use which was lovely.
Dietary requirements were not an issue as I am gluten free and the breakfast basket was replete with both regular and gluten free options. The location was tranquil, accommodation was so well appointed and even the neighbors were friendly.

My mother was visiting from Canada for 6 weeks and we went to stay at Tara's early in her visit. She spoke about this stay throughout her time in Australia and I am so grateful to have found Tara's farm stay and to have experienced her generosity.

The locations, just outside Richmond, hosting the oldest bridge and church still in use in Australia as well as the many galleries and artist displays was a real treat.

We will definitely be back as our son has also asked several times when we are going back to see Tara! Thank you so much for a memorable visit and we look forward to another stay very soon.

Best wishes,

The Allans

Thanks for such a great review. We're happy to adjust things such as breakfast foods and activities on the property to suit our guests needs as much as we can - its not always possible, but we try :) This is one of the benefits of being a smaller property and having only up to 2 groups of guests at any time. We really enjoyed having your family here and hope you do come again!

We had an excellent two nights at Tara´s farm stay. We have a 21 month old son and he loved the place. He got to feed the lamb, horse and other animals in the morning, play in the cubby house, explore the farm etc. We were provided a high chair, bowls and cups for kids, a travel cot, kids bath, kids toys and dvds. This place is an extremely child friendly place. Breakfast was really nice with freshly made bread and jam along with other yummy supplies. Tara took the time to show us around the farm and answer all our questions. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone interested in a farm stay.

Excellent fun and a very enjoyable, no-worries stay overall. The property has everything for full comfort of the whole family. The countryside views are magnificent. Our baby boy met his first animals and just loved them right away, as much as the grown-ups loved their barbie sausages from nearby town. Tara and her husband are great, attentive and amicable hosts, explained to us a lot about how the farm operates and recycles waste. It's a farm so expect occasional mud and noise, the animals wake up early! But you feel like going out and getting your own fresh milk and eggs from the barns.

Room Tip: The family suite has everything you might possibly need. Complete kitchen equipment. The bathroom is...

I'm glad you enjoyed your stay - even if the animals were a bit noisy at times. Guests are always welcome to collect (and cook!) fresh eggs from our chickens and we love it when they join us to find out more about what it is like to live on a small farm in Tasmania. Thanks for taking the time to write a review too!
