I have today returned from traveling around the beautiful state of Tasmania, while we stayed in many places in the 2 weeks we travelled, i found that Richmond Barracks was the most enjoyable place to stay and a high-light for our group of 4 adults,we had 2 of the cottages.
We stayed for 4 nights and host Liz and her gorgeous dog, could not have made us feel more welcome. The facilities were of outstanding quality and the cleanliness was brilliant. Liz went even as far as to supply our group with the tools, oil and sauces to use her BBQ.
I would happily recommend this to anyone looking to stay in this beautiful region.
Well done Liz, thank you again for having us, i wish you all the success for these Cottages.

We stayed at the Beautiful Richmond Barracks in the Lady Esther 2 bedroom cottage on a 3 week trip to Tasmania. On arrival at the Richmond Barracks we were greeted by the owners Liz & Martin. They have to be 2 of the most pleasant, helpful and friendly people anyone could meet and during our stay nothing was too much trouble for them, I found them easily approachable and it felt like we had known them for years.

As soon as you enter the cottage you are struck by the extremely high standard of maintenance and cleanliness of the place. The open plan lounge\ kitchen is brilliant and consists of all home comforts. The downstairs ensuite bedroom was divine. The bed was so comfortable that i found it hard to force myself out of it in the mornings, the lovely continental breakfast basket was very appealing though and had lovely breads, fruits and yoghurt to choose from. The bathroom was again finished to a very high standard and even had a heater switch which kept the room warm once you came out of the shower. The shower was fantastic too and made me realise just how badly my shower is at home as it was so powerful and hot. The upstairs bedroom consists of a nice twin bedroom with ensuite toilet and sink which was also maintained perfectly.

We enjoyed our stay at the Richmond Barracks so much that we had to go back near the end of our trip. This time we stayed in the Retreat one bedoom unit which was again beautiful.

I would definately recommend anyone visiting Richmond to stay at Richmond Barracks as you won't be disappointed. We loved it so much that we are already planning a return trip and will definately be staying at the Barracks for a longer period of time. Liz and Martin should be very proud of what they have acheived with Richmond Barracks as it is credit to both them and the area of Richmond.

This lovely historical B&B style premises is in the charming small town of Richmond near Hobart. We had our own self contained unit with all mod cons, ensuite tv, heater/cooler. Martin & Liz looked after us so well it felt like family! The building is a converted barracks from the 1800's during the time of convict deportations to austrailia. Beautiful town and countryside.

This is a very nice place to stay. Close to attractions in Richmond. Owners are nice people who provide good service. Breakfast was delivered daily- more choice in what was available might have been good, but it was very nice. The only not so good thing about this accomodation is the shower in the two bedroom unit. There is only one shower shared between the two bedrooms, it was very weak, water flow was poor and lost heat quickly when attempts to adjust were made. Very disappointing. But overall a good place to stay.

We stayed in the Lady Esther, 2 story apartment. The Barracks combines a piece of colonial history, on the outside, with modern, beautifully fitted out accommodation on the inside! Plenty of space and the kitchen had everything you could need - and more. This included coffee plunger PLUS the coffee, toaster oven etc. The breakfast tray was fantastic and the best we experienced all trip.
The owners were efficient, helpful but discreetly unobtrusive. The location is just a short walk to the town centre, famous bridge and so on. No balcony in this unit for drinks, but a lovely table at a window with a pleasant outlook surficed. There was an outdoor setting that could be used, in the general grounds. Car parking is easy and near to room. Richmond is a delightful, historical town to explore. We cannot recommend dinner at Ma Fossies, however. Perhaps the pub might be a better choice! Twin bedroom upstairs had an ensuite toilet and basin. The only shower is in the main (downstairs) bedroom. This could be tricky for 2 couples sharing - but not a problem for us. Loved our stay here - wish it was more than 1 night!
