“best hotel on the north coast of peru”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 1, 2009

We've been going to this hotel for years. We work on archaeology projects and often bring students. Safety and comfort are a big concern. Cold beer, hot shower, food that tastes good and won't make you sick, great surf, nice people. A family run hotel, several of the family members speak english very well. Reasonable price. After kicking around in places that are sometimes a bit harsh, this hotel offers the simple luxury of relaxing next to the pool and enjoying a good view of the coast.

This is a very nice hotel. Clean, good breakfast, nice pool, good location, etc. There is an internet room with three computers you can used if you need to stay plugged in (which I did, unfortunately, on my trip). My favorite part was the shower. We'd been staying in less nice accomodations so it was great to have a place with reliable hot water (although the water pressure is pretty low). The place is good for families, but my husband and I enjoyed it as well (we don't have kids). They have those wonderful Latin American hard beds too - love that!

Stayed for 6 nights in August 2008. Made the "reservation" using Hotel Bracamonte's web site. The reservation isn't much more then a web form with no payment options and no confirmation! Welcome to how things work in Huanchaco Peru! :-) My expectation was to be contacted by email saying they have my reservations. After a week and no contact I simply called the hotel directly and they took my information over the phone. Funny thing about 15 minutes later I got an email confirmation, probably caused them to check their email for the first time that week. Oh well, everybody is VERY relaxed and not put out by anything. The “Hostal” Bracamonte and I put that in quotes because the sign outside has the word “Hostal” covered up with “Hotel”. So no matter how you see it reference it’s the same place. The hotel is located on the far southern end of town with no direct view of the ocean. Checking was pretty much “Welcome, here’s your key”….. no credit card or anything! We were given a room in the new building and were very pleased. The room was modest, very clean, and a nice balcony overlooking the pool. There were definitely rooms there in the other buildings that were older but I’m sure they were still very clean since everything there was spotless. Keep in mind rooms in Huanchaco can be a little as $3.00 US a day so at about $50 a day Bracamonte is on the high end. Breakfast was included every morning with a choice of 4 “free” items with other options being just a couple dollars. Having spent 7 days walking around every part of Huanchaco I’m not sure I saw anyplace to stay that looked nicer. I’ll be back in October 2008 and will stay at the Bracamonte again.

The hotel/hostal is really one of the nicer, if not the nicest option to stay in Huanchaco. While it is not directly on the beach, it's a stonethrow away and makes up for location by the comfortable new rooms and beds - something that cannot expected in Peru! The price is decent, the complementary breakfast yummy (try the fruit & jogurt) and the pool area nice (although at the time of our stay, it was not filled fully). Overall a great experience!

This was a pretty good place to stay although the property is older and some of rooms could use some updating it still was a good place to stay and it was clean and safe. They offered good services and the food in the restaurant was good.
All in all we enjoyed our stay here.

This place is a block off the beach, but is safe, just as convenient and provided good services. We planned on staying two nights but stayed an extra day because we liked the area so much. The hotel was average, a bit older but obviously that experience can be helpful. they helped set up a private tour of some ruins which was a good experience. Otherwise the highlight was their restaurant. Really. It is that good. Perhaps I am just a sucker for good old fashioned homemade apple pie (yes they have it); but the asparagus cream soup was heavenly and most everything else we tried in our two meals and morning breakfast. We traveled during low season so the rooms where cheaper than advertised. They even have a pool and helped with a taxi ride to the airport. what more do you need?

  • Liked — the restaurant inside
  • Disliked — our first room was smaller than usual

Nice, clean, safe, friendly. Parking inside. Good restaurant inside. Heard it was owned by a surfer, too. Used by "Overland" tours--saw one of their buses there. We were on a surf trip up to Pacasmayo, but we did surf one afternoon in Huanchaco and had a good time.

  • Liked — Security in Peru is a good thing. This is a good place to stay!
