“Friendly and comfortable place to sleep”
Reviewed February 14, 2013

Cozy rooms just off the beach with sleeping lofts over sitting room. Bathroom is adequate but a bit small. Plumbing is also just adequate. However, thats where the shortcomings cease. The place has a fantastic location with a locked front gate for secure access. The vibe is very relaxed with a wonderful young couple from Holland operating the 3 room hotel/hostal. There is a kitchen on ground floor with fridge, stove and cooler full of beer and water for you to purchase on the honor system. We paid roughly $20 a nite and truly enjoyed our stay in Huanchaco. Found it to be a very friendly little beach town with easy access to city of Trujillo. We were there for Candelaria and elaborate fireworks were going off all up and down the beach. This is a great place in Peru Jan- April.
PS You will love Casa Amelia's four legged Mascot ... a Peruvian hairless that has a pigs tail, bat ears, and growls when he is happy...endearing little creature!
If you should meet Amelia while there you will find her charming.

I've been there for just one night but had a very good night in a comfortable dorm bed, clean bathrooms and a nice patio with chairs and tables. The terrace gives you good views of the beach, or you can just walk into the beach since it's next to the hostel. Reneé and Paul, a lovely couple from Holland run this place in an excellent way.
Would definitely stay there again. Thank you for your hospitality!

My husband and I stayed 5 nights here last week. The rooms and bathrooms are very clean and the beds are comfortable. The rooms are spacious with a bed and chair on the first floor and a loft for the bed with plenty of space on the top floor for your clothing and packs. The huge windows all face the ocean and they all have curtains now (in reference to a previous comment). The wifi worked in our room.

The hostel itself is small and well kept with only three rooms so make a reservation! There is a well stocked and clean kitchen, chairs in the garden to relax, a common room with sofa like benches and tv and a great patio to eat your breakfast and look out over the ocean. You cross the street from the hostel and you are on the beach.

Lastly, Renee and Paul are currently running the hostel and they make sure everything is in order. They had a pizza night while we were there and made yummy pizzas for us and we all pitched in a few soles for the supplies. They were really accommodating when some plumbing work had to be done in our room and also quickly addressed any other concerns we had or helped us with directions and getting around. Paul is a surfer and can answer any questions you have about the area. They are definitely what keeps this place running so smoothly!

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Casa Amelia is a gem of a place, truly unlike anything else in Huanchaco. The extraordinary building is made in bungalow-style with grass roof. It has a beautiful garden where hummingbirds fly around all day. Two roof terraces with chairs and hammocks overlook the sea. Rooms are big, with sea view, very romantic, comfortable and clean. The guest kitchen has everything imaginable to cook your own meals. It's a great place to rest for a while and really feel at home. The location is unbeatable, just where the noise ends. The kitchen includes a super cozy indoor common area with an internet connected tv and guest computer. We have two cute bunnies, a cat and a parrot that walk around and happily receive your love. The hostel is small so you only share everything with a small selection of other guests. We guarantee a great WiFi signal. On top of that we have a huge book exchange, laundry service and will help you with anything you like to undertake in Huanchaco or the region. We know everything about surfing and will assist you to find your material and/or surf lessons. We have an outside shower, place for wetsuits and board rack. From our roof terrace you can check the waves of all 3 surf breaks of Huanchaco. Be very very welcome and we hope you stay for a while! ... more   less
