“Nicest people ever - nice atmosphere!”
Reviewed March 30, 2013

This hostel is like a home. It's run by a family, with one of the nicest ladies ever. She's a really good cook!! Staff is great, location fine (five minuts walk to beach), rooms ok, hot showers. Huanchaco is a bit boring, but in this hostel you'll meet other people really fast and you can also just chill with the staff.

Came here after a disappointing night in a Trip Advisor budget-award winner and found the rooms were pleasantly just 25 soles for a single with its own bathroom. There are also shared rooms available. Looks cleaner and is cozier than nearby places advertising 10 sole rooms. Wifi is available though weak in rooms and better in the courtyard with pleasant seats and hammocks. The courtyard isn't the quietest as guests and the great family are always around. The family is super friendly and willing to share everything they have, including information, food, and stories. Try a delicious marciano, a fresh fruit puree popsicle made with distilled water and no added sugar. Tasty homestyle breakfast and lunch available as well as large water bottles for sale (only 2 soles, like the cheaper markets). There was a bit of construction on the new fourth floor that woke me up on the third (earliest was 9:15 AM) that goes on during the day.

We stayed here for 5 days having only booked one night. When we first arrived I was a little underwhelmed and couldnt figure out what all the fuss was about...but soon found out.

The family are wonderful and although they do live there they have a our house is your house policy so we never felt in the way.

We had a double room on the 3 floor that was clean had storage for our clothes and a good double bed. It's not the Ritz but for £11 a night it was brilliant.

The communal areas are great, with full use of the kitchen, the tv and the outdoor hammocks. We had lunch made one day for us for 8 soles and it was beautiful.

It's close to the beach without having any of the noise of the beach bars and we were lucky enough to meet some great people during our stay there.

Amazing place. Amazing value!

We stayed here for three nights. Rooms and showers are fine, kitchen is a mess. There was a reconstruction going on at that time, what made the place a bit dirty and messy. Also there was a lot of noise during the day which made us decide to change hostel after 3 days.

Patricia, Stefanie, Barbara, Manuel and Neil: your family away from home.
Great rooms, hot water, reliable internet, shared patio with hammocks, delicious and cheap home made breakfast and lunch, warm, friendly and helpful owners. Perfect for people who want to volunteer or surf in Huanchaco.
HIGHLY recommended

We walked in to Mc Callum and the owner Manuel and his son Neil welcomed us and let us choose our room.
We had a nice corner room, but something to hang up our clothes was missing. I told them and 20 minutes later a clothes rack was hanging on our wall.
Manuel and Patricia, and their grown up kids just did everything to make us feel comfortable. They were absolutely beautiful.
The other travelers in the hostel were great too, it really felt like a big family.
The rooms are nice and clean and comfortable.
They also cook good lunches for 5 soles. We ended up staying for two weeks and would definitely go back.

The lodge was in a great location, close to the beach, local shops and local transport. We originally only planned on staying a few nights and ended up staying ten days. The McCallum family that run the lodge were exceptional hosts. Any requests that we had, they were more than happy to facilitate. For an additional $2 (Aust) the Peruvian lunch that was offered was fresh and plentiful. The luxury of chilling out in the hammocks in the courtyard and having an afternoon siesta is proof that you are having a relaxing time here. They also offer a laundry service that is good value for money. The free WIFI is fast and reliable. We could not have wished for a more chilled place to relax in Huanchaco.
