“Luxury Hotel in Paracas, Peru”
Reviewed January 11, 2014

By far the best hotel in Paracas! We had a spacious ocean front suite, with a small terrace, an excellent place to read in the afternoons. By the way, every afternoon a hotel employee gave us two 'chocotejas' (chocolates filled with pecans, currants, orange etc). Love to walk every night through the resort's gardens, so peaceful. They have one main gourmet restaurant, and a very good trattoria, which we enjoyed. Also, at their beautiful Bar Lounge, they serve sandwichs and delicious entrees. There are two pools, one huge for families (with games), and another one for adults. We stayed here for four days, and enjoyed every day! They have an efficient and excellent staff. I highly recommend this luxury collection hotel in Paracas, they are the best!!!!

Room Tip: Oceanfront suites, really quiet.

First of all, we booked via Booking.com and payed therefor half the price of high season (250$ per night). That makes it worthwile. In the middle of nowhere, the hotel is a little oasis. Good room with seaview, excellent household staf!!!.
Unfortunately you have to pay for everything extra, only the basic as fittness and sailing and kayaking were included. Shadow at the main pool was only available for 25 $.
The prices of food and drinks were very high. Service at the bar was realy slow. 20 min for a cappuchino..). But on the other hand, service in the restaurant excellent even so the food.
We were lucky with the smell of the dead algens in the sea. Only in the early morning and if you would have lunch on the jetty/pier, you have to pass the barrier of this smell, which you will never get used to...).

My family and I stayed here for 6 days to relax on our recent visit to Peru.

The positives:

Luxurious, modern new hotel with great accomodation, excellent food and two beautiful pools ( one is adults only but lots of kids nevertheless).
Amazing service. Want to mention Fernando , manager of food services, in particular who gave us service above and beyond in dealing with our daughters nut allergy.
Great weather. It NEVER rains here.
Great spa and gym.

Negatives:

A long 4 hour drive from Lima.
Terrible beach with old washed up seaweed which definitely emits a horrible odour intermittently. The smell comes and goes and was bad enough on one occasion to prevent us from eating dinner outside.I don't know why they don't remove this stuff. It did not seem to be a problem when we walked the 2km walk next to the hotel.
The sea is like thick pea soup on the hotel beach. Once you sail about 50 feet off shore , the water is beautiful and clear although quite chilly.

The staff at the family pool seemed intent on playing loud disco music. I don't expect this at an exclusive hotel. This is not an all inclusive low budget Carribean resort.
They did turn it down when requested but had to be told this every day.

No shade at the adult pool. This forced us to use the family pool.
There are cabanas at the adult pool but we were told these were all reserved although we hardly saw anyone using them.

Room Tip: I don't think the rooms in front near the beach and pool are worth the extra cost. In fact they...

Dear Guest,

Thank you very much for your comments, it helps us to improve guests experiences.
I will pass to Fernando the great comment of yours about his dedication of making your daughter s safety and welness.
We are curently working with the local authority to solve the seaweed problem as we are in a protected National Reserve.
Paracas is a very special place with many species of wildlife and a fantastic marine ecosystem.
Thank you for your visit and hope to see you again,

Our family of 4 stayed at the Hotel Paracas after an 8 day stay in Mira Flores, Lima doing volunteer work in a children's home. We loved Lima VERY MUCH and decided to have a three day rest at the end of our work. The physical beauty of Hotel Paracas is top notch...rooms and appointments as nice as ANY 5 star or urban hotel or more remote resort. Large rooms, gorgeous furnishings. The weather could NOT have been more ideal. That said, where the hotel falls short is the quality of SOME of the staff. There is a general feeling of indifference and sometimes a feeling of "I will tell you this just to end the conversation". Case in point--next to the beautiful main pool are lovely chaise lounges but no umbrellas, so absolutely no protection from the sun. There are however some cabanas that can be rented for $50. My husband was under the weather and wanted some protection so we rented one. When we asked if we could book for the next day too they told us no, they were fully booked. Next day we could see only two of the probably 16 cabanas with people in them. Weird. Similar experience when early in the morning a very loud alarm/siren was ringing for about half an hour on the resort. We called to see if everything was okay and they claimed not to hear anything. This alarm could be heard ...I am sure of it. It was as loud as an air raid siren....ultimately it stopped by really? No one could hear it?
As for food, there are not a lot of options. The food at the resort is more complex than it needs to be, with fairly limited menus and are not particularly family oriented. Buffet breakfast was best part. Not many light options either. The food along the beach in the little downtown area in the local beach restaurants looked WAY more desirable and was probably a quarter of the price. Fresh fish, rice dishes and many other choices. If you are not intimidated by local fare and scene (backpackers and locals side by side) I would take the 7 minute walk for lunch and dinner. I wish we could have eaten in every one.

There beach here is not very inviting and along the resort is non-existent. The stroll along the malecon is lovely but other than that, there is not much to do around the resort. Excursions to a few local attractions exist, but Paracas itself is pretty quiet. A good choice if you want to spend a lot of time in the room and lounging by a nice pool. Oh yeah, the "smell" that many reviews mention is positively awful...an absolutely inescapable stink when the wind blows a certain way. If you can believe it, it actually woke me up it was so overwhelming. But luckily for us the wind behaved for 80% of our time there. And for what it's worth, this is NOT a smell you can get used to.

Overall...I would say two nights at most if you are in need of rest and pampering....otherwise I would look for someplace with more actions and options.

I have been going to Paracas since I was a kid. Paracas is 3 hours south of Lima and it is a Natural Reservation which is gorgeous. It is on the way to Nazca (Nazca lines) and Arequipa if you travel by land. In contrast to Lima, it is usually sunny year round and has spectacular sunsets. During the afternoons it is so windy it is ideal for windsurfing, catamaran, etc. The colors of the desert sun: intense yellow, red, etc are spectacular. You can also fly from here to see the Nazca lines.
During the earthquake of 2007 the original hotel got destroyed and this rebuilt hotel is spectacular. The distribution is the same as that in the old hotel, but this one is very modern, tasty and luxurious. It has two beautiful pools and two restaurants were the service is impeccable. The Spa is also very nice and the prices for massages etc are very reasonable. Paracas is a seafood place but unfortunately the cuisine, athough excelent, does not have fish prepared in the typical Peruvian way, which is my favorite. In addition, the menu does not change and similar to the first time I went there after it was rebuilt, the menu is identical. They just opened a cebiche place during that operates during the days, but I was not able to try it. Breakfast is the best meal offering as it combines Peruvian and International stuff, although they could use better Peruvian fresh fruit.
I always get a car when I come here because the beach in front of the hotel is not nice. Very close by (within a radius of 30 Km) there are gorgeous beaches which vary from cool isolated small beaches without waves to very long stretches of beach with more surf. La Mina, Mendieta, and Raspon are among my favorites. Because of the wind you cannot stay in the beach later than 3 in the afternoon, but by then you probably have had enough sun that you do not want to stay any longer. That is the time to head back to the hotel, have a drink and either read, kayak, or use a catamaran.
I would recommend a couple of nights here at least for people coming back from the South of Peru to relax after having visited ruins, etc to pamper yourself. Not cheap but well worth it.

Room Tip: If you have decided to go, spend a little more and get a room with full sea views. The sunsets from...

Dear Guest,

Thank you very much for you comment, let me inform you that we have already open a new restaurant in our property named Chalana, it is at the pier of our Hotel and they offer different kinds of ceviche, tiraditos, causa and shells and mussels to Chalaca style. They are open since 11:00am to 5:00pm. Also you can find some ceviche on our main restaurant.

Paracas is located in a bay that has strong winds, so you can enjoy various adventure sports in the area such as windsurfing, catamaran, etc..

We will be waiting for you on your next visit to us,

Warm Regards,

Thanks to the guana that once was the area's chief export, the coast near Paracas is known to be odiferous, but Hotel Paracas has more than birds and sea lions to worry about. The sewer smell can weaken your knees, especially at the southern end of its ocean front property. It certainly ruins outdoor sitting on the decks of the hotel's well-appointed units and its two pools. No amount of expert attention by staff can make up for the unpredictable sewer stench that is far worse than the tolerable odor from what the wildlife provide.
Highlights of our brief stay were delicious and beautifully presented ceviche in mid afternoon at the hotel's pier restaurant, an Ica Sauvignon blanc at sunset and then fireside in the huge lounge, and casual meals in the seaside village of Paracas.

Room Tip: Rooms at the northern end are furthest from both the sewer smell and the pool noise, and provide the...

Dear Guest,

Thank you very much for your comments, sorry you've had problems with the strong smell of algae within the Paracas area, it is an issue within the entire bay, not only in the hotel. This odor comes from the dead algae in the sea, we discard all seaweed found on our beach, but we can not do much about the residential area on the southern Hotel.

We will be waiting for you next visit to us,

We are here to celebrate our birthdays and Christmas and could not be happier. We have an oceanfront room, king bed, not a suite, and it's fabulous. I asked for champagne in the room for our arrival to celebrate my wife's birthday, and they brought it but also surprised us with chocolate covered strawberries. Friendly service. Gorgeous location, though this is not the place for ocean swimming (there are stingrays). We like just being near the water and having a pool, so it's fine. Some people have complained about sea smells in their reviews, but we don't see it as a problem at least for our stay -- you get an occasional whiff of seaweed but it's only occasional and not at all omnipresent. Good value when compared to similar resorts elsewhere in the world. We drove from Lima without any problems. Overall a beautiful resort worth visiting.
