A lost civilizations remnants. No information whatsoever on who they were or what their culture was. Splendid place full of great energy and amazing sites. If you like long lost cultures you will certainly enjoy the park. And san Agustín is one of the mos beautiful places in Colombia.

Okay so in contrast to some of things that others are saying I think I was a bit underwhelmed by this park. It was walking distance from where we stayed so we were looking forward to it... What is there are some artefacts from a civilisation that existed pre European invasion, that left no written records and about which everything is guesswork. For this reason we did not get a guide, as what will they be able to say that is it on the signposts in the park? It is all guesswork. The tombs are presented as holes in the ground inside some hills where they were systematically excavated and recreated... Without any of the artefacts hat they found inside. Maybe they are in the Casa del Museo on the site, but it was closed. Many of the statues have been relocated to a "statue wood" meaning that it is impossible to relate which statues went with which tombs...

The area is pleasantly laid out and some of the stonework is impressively preserved given its age, but I think it is a shame that more is not available "in situ". I guess the guards at every mound would be a bit overworked.

Cost to get in in July 2013. 20,000 CoP or about USD10... The armband ticket lasts for two days and admits you to other "archeological" sites in the area. Don't do what we did and break it off and throw it away meaning that we had to pay again the following day at other sites!

This is a MUST when visiting the south of Colombia. A nice park exhibiting scultures from the augustinian culture. Beautiful and peaceful place.

A little pricey when the musuem is closed, but if you get a guide you get a wealth of knowledge about this area. Ask for Jerry Lewis (at the information office in town or at the entrance to the parque). He speaks english and 6 other languages! Expect to pay 50,000 pesos for a 3-4 hour tour with entrance fee on top. You also get the opportunity to try the world´s best best coffee inside the park.

After meeting with Humberto(humbertoguiadeturismosanagustin@hotmail.com), the owner of the great Diosa Lunar Hostal. He helped us a lot to discover what San Agustin had to offer. Incredible Archeological Park, Jeep tour of cascadas and other archeological sites, Monday market, restaurants... and even directed us to the very well set-up Camping San Agustin(http://campingsanagustin.jimdo.com/), to the local mechanic who took care of our truck...

The town is very relaxed and everything is a 5 minute walk...

We loved it!!

Muchas Gracias Humberto
