“Wonderful Spot for a Great Vacation”
Reviewed November 21, 2011

We left the cold of Seattle this November & traveled to Casa de La Sirena for 10 days with our son & daughter in law. We could not have chosen a better spot. The accommodations, the cleanliness, the location, the grounds, the fabulous staff, and the awesome owners, Debbie & Mike could have have been better or more helpful.....simply wonderful. It was a joy to stay there.
The town of Troncones is filled with amazingly friendly & joyful people with great restaurants, fun Sportsbar, small stores and beautiful beaches, turtles and nature.
We highly recommend Casa de La Sirena and when you stay there you will understand why so many people are return guests.

When I'm having a particularly stressful moment at work or getting jostled around by life in NYC, I close my eyes and think about floating in the pool at Sirena. It is my happy place.

The thing about Sirena is that everyone I've met there is a return visitor or if a newbie, is already planning to come back. We've been twice, and long to plan a third trip. The property itself is gracious, the crew that owns and works there incredibly warm and accommodating, and the landscaping (something is always in bloom!), pool (perfectly positioned to make the most of the sun, perfect after a briney dip in the ocean!) and beachfront (with cozy, private palapas for you to snooze and sun on in between splashing in the surf!) are absolute paradise. Debbie and Mike have taken care to make all elements of the Sirena experience meet their own standards - and as a result, you want for nothing as their guest.

The self-catering accommodations themselves are delightful - I'm always impressed by the way the kitchens are equipped, and the spaces are oriented to make the most of the views, light and air. The beds are comfortable and the linens and towels are nice quality.

It is the perfect balance of privacy and conviviality, and of feeling detached from the "real world" without roughing it.

Beyond the property...Troncones is a fantastic village with warm people and various places to eat. Cheap beer. Cheap food. Troncones beach is a great place to run, lay out, or splash in the big waves, and can provide you with miles to walk, shell collect or jog. Next door is a resort with a great series of yoga and meditation classes - there is really nothing like a yoga class taken while listening to the waves crash, followed by a two minute walk across the beach back to your own private pool!. Further afield, Zihua is fun to visit for a bustling town experience - we love to go to the municipal market and eat with the locals.

But you really don't need to go anywhere or do anything to enjoy your stay at Sirena. It is the ultimate in relaxation to just be there, looking across that pool to that ocean. I'm already jealous of my next trip.

Room Tip: we love the third floor mini-villa best!

We are staying at Sirena right now and it's so wonderful I felt compelled to write while we're still here. We ar two families with 7 kids, ages 7-14. What an amazing time we're having. Not only is the house perfect for us, but the town too. It's like a throwback to an earlier era, untouched even for Mexico! My little son is out right now with a handle of coins walking to the local tienda to buy some milk for our morning joe. The waves are crashing outside our front door and all is heaven!

We have rented the main villa and the top two mini suites. Perfect for two families. The kids run back and forth between the two properties (separated only by gardens and palm trees) and we spend time in both houses cooking, drinking and using each other's pools. The best thing about Sirena is the AC--and the location! Do not be fooled by the very glamorous, high-concept, open-air bungalows homes for rent. In August, AC is a must, at least for a good night's sleep. We just turn it on before we go to bed and have the best night's sleep. Great mattresses, nice sheets, and tinted windows so you can sleep even after the sun gets up. It's really the perfect spot.

You can walk to all the restaurants and the smooth, swimable part of the beach is just out our door and about 50 yards down the beach. In front of us is a rocky stretch, but that's like pretty much every house on the beach unless you're right on Manzanillo Bay. The kids are out all day long playing in the surf, building sand castles and sitting at the beach side bar at MiCasaSuCasa having chocolate milkshakes. We love it here!

Room Tip: Rent the mini-suites if you don't need the big house with 3 bedrooms. Brighter and airier rooms.

On our third trip to Troncones, my husband and I opted to stay at Casa de la Sirena. What a great choice we made! The whole complex is lovely and the owners, Debbie and Mike, as well as the staff could not have been nicer or more helpful.

We had the third floor mini-villa, which has a great view of everything and a delightful cooling breeze. The rooms are decorated in a mermaid theme with lovely brilliant colors everywhere, but not so much that you become overwhelmed. There is plenty of seating, lounging, and storage for all your stuff (suitcases hidden). No one ever talks about the bathroom in these reviews, so let me assure you that this one is good. There's lots of room and a good shower with plenty of pressure and hot water. There's a blow dryer there so you don't need to lug yours along. And plenty of counter space for all your lotions and potions as well as your husband's stuff. There are ceiling fans in the bed and bathrooms as well as four more in your outdoor living room, which is very cooling in the afternoon.

We had spent the previous week in Zihuatanejo and found that our Troncones stay was even more relaxing and restful-- complete and total relaxation, which is what a vacation is all about for me. We had a laptop along with us, so were able to stay in touch with friends a relatives using the complex's WiFi. This was right after the tsunami in Japan, so we kept up with the news, too.

We ate at several local restaurants and never had a bad meal. The beach is awesome and we did some boogie boarding, lots of walking, and even more lounging/sun bathing.

I took a yoga class a few doors up the beach at Present Moment (their restaurant is also very good!) and that was a great way to spend a morning. We did an eco-tour to an estuary and saw a lot of cool birds for my list. We also did the turtle release down the beach at Roberto's Bistro and that was really moving. They're so little, it's hard to believe any of them will make it!

All in all, it was a great week and we've decided to skip the Zihua leg in the future and just spend the full two weeks in Troncones--at Casa de la Sirena!

I can't say enough about this beautiful property and all the wonderful people taking care of it. The owners, Debbie and Mike, are so welcoming and kind. They people taking care of the grounds and assisting vacationers were like a second family. The grounds are lush and clean, the rooms (we stayed in a bungalow) are incredible, esp with the open air kitchen on the 2nd floor. We saw whales jumping out on the horizon. The beach is beautiful and very spacious, uncrowded and grounding. The local restaurants are the soul of Troncones, as are the local surf and yoga instructors. I can't say enough about Casa de la Sirena and Troncones. We are planning a wedding there next year. I know that people who are interested in relaxing outside of the masses of an all-inclusive would be very happy here.

We rented the villa for one week with friends; the design is perfect for 2 or 3 couples or friends; it is right on the beach with it's own private pool; the common area (kitchen, bar, lounge, etc) is on the upper level, so you have great views of the sunset; we opted to have several meals catered by a local Mexican cook and they were delicious and very reasonable; great to have easy access to the beach for early morning sunrise walks; also walking distance to several restaurants in the village; much better than the crowds in Zihuatanejo, but also a short drive if one wants to spend the day there; we hope to return; the owners, Tim and Debbie were wonderful hosts and very helpful.
