As many have said on Trip Advisor, the hosts & property at the Hacienda are absolutely lovely. That being said I wanted to mention how safe and quiet the little town of Sayulita was, I noticed when I was talking about my trip many were concerned that I was going to Mexico and worried about the safety. Sayulita is a friendly, quiet and extremely safe town.. I traveled with two of my girlfriends and we comfortably walked around at night, took taxi's, went to secluded beaches.. we always felt extremely safe.. so just in case you were concerned, don't be! Travel to Sayulita, this town is a wonderful little get away in Mexico!

My wife and I just returned from a 6 night stay at Terri and Steve's quiet piece of paradise. With the exception of holiday withdrawal, we cound not have asked for more. The Hacienda itself is gorgeous. Our suite, Los Arboles, was outfitted with a large kitchen, dining area, and living space, complete with all cooking appliances, sattelite TV, DVD, and a large sofa. While we did not spend much time there, it was always inviting. The pool terrace is relaxing, replete with gorgeous views, and accomadated by a bar (stocked if you don't have your own booze). It was at once a quiet place for a dip and hours of reading, as well as a perfect place to meet other vacationers over drinks and Terri's delicious breakfasts or dinners. Beyond the walls of the B&B, there was most immediately a picturesque sand beach that you will more than likely have to yourself. Within a 30-40 min walk, you can be in Sayulita, a Mexican fishing village come surfer hang out. The night life though present, was trim, but the delish Mexican nosh and people watching more than made up for it. I recommend surf lessons for those who are looking for a new adventure. Long boarding is the method of choice and perfect for catching your first wave. Within a short trip (via bus or taxi) you can easily access whale watching (in season), snorkeling, jungle tirps, or shopping in one of the many surrounding villages and markets. We found more than enough activities for our week long vacation and could have found much more to do had time allowed. To be honest, at the end of each day trip, we eagerly anticipated returning to our "home away from home".

All in all we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and, at the risk of this perfect secret getting out, would return in a heart beat.

This year was our third visit to Hacienda de la Coasta and felt like going home! We love Sayulita and Hacienda de la Coasta is hands down the best place to stay. Staying at the Hacienda gives us peace of mind. Terri works with her guests every step of the way, from initial contact and reservations to coordinating all of the transportation you will need. Working with the best people in the area. Sayulita is a very safe destination . Once settled in,Steve will give you all the information you need to coordinate activities, meals, and best places to explore. Activities such as whale watching, snorkeling, and fishing can be coordinated with Steve and Terri.

The rooms at the Hacienda are wonderful and secure. There is a handy safe in each room and the property is warmly guarded by Tripod and Peso, two wonderful dogs that help Terri and Steve run the B&B and welcome guests. We look forward to seeing them each year. We enjoy the beauty of the property, perched on a hill with a panorama of coastline and jungle trees. In the afternoon, the sun shines on the pool, making the temperature just perfect for swimming. Terri always has the most wonderful music playing and the bar with refreshments is just a step away. Each room has access to a gourmet kitchen. At night the sky and stars are like a trip to the planetarium and the jungle noises are fantastic with the wonderful sound of the ocean. Did I mention the beautiful sunsets every night?

Terri cooks the daily breakfast that is included..... it's always really good. Terri your cooking gets better and better each year.

Visiting Sayulita and the Hacienda de la Cosata is a great vacation, one we enjoy each year. We highly recommend it!!!!

We spend 4 nights at Hacienda de la Costa in early December & loved it. We love Mexico & have visited many times and this is one of our favorite places we have stayed.Terri and Steve are great hosts with advice on local restaurants & sights. Terri's breakfasts were outstanding -don't miss dinner served by the pool. Sayulita is an interesting town a short walk or drive away. One day we shopped for fish and vegetables in Sayulita and barbecued dinner -the kitchen is fully equipped.
After 4 days we felt like we were leaving friends. Great place for a relaxing holiday
We will be back

This was our first time at Hacienda de la Costa and we couldn't have been happier. We liked that our place was outside of the hustle and bustle of Sayulita. It was very relaxing. The gardens were so lush and tropical we felt like we were in a jungle paradise with all the amenities we could want. Terri is a fabulous chef and accomadated our dietary particulars with creativity and enthusiasm. Steve always had ideas for places to visit and stories around local folklore that entertained. We felt so well taken care of and felt certain we would return. We would not hesitate to recommend this B and B to friends and family.

Room Tip: We liked the top room La Vista, because of the spectacular views. Also if felt more secluded. Howe...

My husband and I just returned after 8 nights at the Hacienda de la Costa. It lives up to all of the kudos it has been receiving on Trip Advisor and we would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxing, laid-back getaway in beautiful surroundings. We've stayed in many different hotels & resorts in Mexico over the past 20 years and this place rates at the top. Terri is an excellent cook, so if you have a chance to have one of her twice-weekly dinners, you won't be disappointed. We didn't have a car and didn't feel the need for one as it was easy to walk down into town and get a taxi back up. We loved Sayulita and will be back.
Thanks Steve & Terri!

my fiancé and i had a wonderful, relaxing stay at hacienda de la costa. we rented a car, and i would highly recommend this to others...hacienda de la costa is tucked away in the jungle on pretty bad roads, but it's well worth the 20-30 minute drive from the main road to hear nothing but the ocean and birds (and the burro next door). we didn't have a 4-wheel drive vehicle but i would get one on our next visit. my fiancé surfs and we had a great time driving around the nayarit coast - especially liked the beach at san francisco, much more low key than sayulita. rented the car from gecko - great guys who not only helped us with local surf spots but lent my fiancé a leash for his board. great hospitality all around - definitely visit this beautiful part of mexico, and stay at the hacienda if you're looking to get away from it all, but be close to everything at the same time.

Room Tip: we had la palma - i would stay in that room again, or the room above.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts with the Trip Advisor community. I agree that if you’re an avid surfer then you’ll want to rent a car to maximize your ability to visit the best breaks. We’re located just 1 ½ miles from the paved road, so it’s a 7-10 minute drive at most, but it’s a bumpy dirt road so I can understand why a person accustomed to city driving might find that the slow pace makes the trip seem longer. Usually after a person drives it a couple times they're comfortable with it. A 4-wheel drive is recommended during the rainy season, June to mid-October, but unnecessary otherwise, the road is commonly navigated by compact cars and golf carts. The vast majority of our guests are not surfers, but they are active individuals of all ages, and rather than rent a car they prefer to walk into town and either walk or taxi back after a wonderful meal at one of Sayulita’s many great restaurants. In fact, of the 60 or so bookings that we've had so far this season less than 10 have felt a need to rent a vehicle.
