Our three families, each with teenaged girls, had a great day of sailing with Capt. Darrin. He is a wonderfully entertaining host, and his crew is capable and took care of our every need. We had a band on board which was fun. The Pacificos kept coming. His boat is spacious and comfortable. We will definitely sail with Capt Darrin next visit!

This day on the water was the highlight of my week in Sayulita!! With a small group, only 13 sailers plus crew and Darren, we were treated like royalty!! Not only did we get a chance to see dolphins, stingrays, and the amazing Marietta's Islands, but on our way to and from the island the crew was kind enough to stop the boat so we could jump in the ocean for a quick dip. A really great atmosphere - laid back, friendly, and super positive. The boat was amazing, tons of space to lounge, in the shade or sun, and the breakfast of freshly cut fruit hit the spot. Couldn't have asked for anything more. Will definitely be returning, and going for another sail with Darren and his crew!

What can i say about captain darren and his crew... I have been on similar day trips in different areas and this one was definately unique. The live music on board really livened the experience and the crew was very accomidating from beginning to end. You can really see that darren takes a lot of pride in the experience he offers the customers. Theres a few options in town for a similar style of day trip, but from what I gather from the competing boats out there that it would be the same as going to sayulita because you heard the food was great then eating at Subway.

You've got several choices for a sailing trip while in Sayulita. We looked at all three and they are all priced identically so you will need to choose based on the boat and the crew. First of all, you'd be mad to show up in Sayulita and not go sailing. Chica Loco is a well appointed motor yacht trimaran which is popular but does not sail. Alley Cat is a newer well appointed Catamaran with sails. Sayula 1 is a 50 ft trimaran with sails. We chose Sayulita Sailing Explorations' Sayula 1 and went for one day but ended up going two days in a row. We enjoyed both experiences which were completely different. Day one was twelve passengers and day two was thirty two passengers, and live music. The crew goes out of their way to accommodate by feeding you and making sure you always have a drink. Darrin the owner is very laid back and sets the tone of the trip with a very lassez-faire, friendly approach. For us, this was the perfect trip. Having not taken the other trips I'd say this; Chica Loco is not a sailboat so if you want to sail, that leaves Alley Cat and Sayula 1. If you want non sterile, irreverent, fun ... and you want to meet characters then Darrin Rath's Sayula 1 is your boat for the day. Enjoy.

This was a highlight of our trip to Sayulita! The intimate atmosphere of the boat made the whole day really special. It was obvious when we arrived at the islands that we had the BEST transport out there. Captain Darrin, Pancho, Chewy and Tato were all super attentive and I always had a drink in my hand. They were very friendly and tried to answer my questions about wildlife even though they could benefit with having a naturalist aboard. There was plenty of yummy food! The crew was very accomodating to everyone and even made ceviche out of a fish that we caught while in transport. The family with small kids were able to get their little ones safely to the island in kayaks. Really the kids should have been wearing life jackets while on board and not just on the kayaks...pero viva la Mexico. The only thing that might put some folks off was that the crew was drinking whiskey on the way out and there was the unmistakable sent of marijuana coming from the cabin on the way back. Little kids wouldn't notice but families with adolescents and teenagers might be uncomfortable. I never felt like I was in uncapable hands or that my safety was jeopardized but there is that element. Overall...blue footed boobies and plenty of margaritas made for a spectacular day!!! Highly recommend!
