“Don't come all the way hear without doing this”
Reviewed August 2, 2012 via mobile

This morning I did a boat tour with this company and loved it. We saw plenty of whales, tales and all, and a school of dolphins came close enough that we could see them underwater. At this time there is no more icebergs....too late. The last ones were seen 2 weeks ago but the tour is well worth it anyway. We get info on whales, dolphins, geology, local history etc. Only downside is that i would have liked it to last the whole day wich is impossible.

Tip #1 plan to do the tour early in your stay in St-Anthony. I got here yesterday and it was too foggy so the afternoon tour was cancelled. I was able to do it this morning.

Tip #2 there is a limit of ten on the highest part of the deck for those braves who don't mind more motion. It is worth to be there so you see all around the ship. Also, while in whale watch mode, the guide drives the ship from up there and you can get a little more info "off speaker".

Good work.

“This boat tour is well-worth the cost!”
Reviewed July 23, 2012

We took the tour on a mostly sunny afternoon and the crew were equally sunny! We were having fun before we left the dock. After they found some whales for us to watch, we headed over to cirumnavigate a huge iceberg that was grounded about 5kms out. Paul is very knowledgeable and generous with information about the wildlife and community. This tour is great value!

“Wonderful experience.”
Reviewed July 16, 2012

This boat trip was the highlight of our visit to Northern Newfoundland. It was a bit rainy on the morning we went out, but we saw icebergs, dolphins, sea caves and loads of other beautiful things.
We didn't get close to the whales (because of the weather/choppy water), but apparently they also have a gret track record for whale sightings.
The guide was informative and funny- he told great stories about the area and Newfoundland in general. The pictures we took are priceless- we stopped next to a huge iceberg, and even got to eat a chunk of ice from the berg.

I highly recommend this tour!

“Great view of iceberg but disappointed and cheated”
Reviewed July 10, 2012

Not unlike other reviewers, we were canceled out of our scheduled trip(s) due to foggy conditions, but were able to go out the next morning. We felt fortunate to see this amazing and massive iceberg in June, but had high hopes for being able to circle around it and stay longer. It seemed there was more interest in viewing the whales. The biggest rip-off was having the tour operator and owner expect tips at the end of the trip after paying $50+.

Thank you for your comment. I'm sorry you felt disappointed. We really do aim to please. Each trip we are focused on providing quality experiences that we are well recognized for.

We will not Knowingly go out in DENSE fog, as it was the day of your booking. Dense fog can often make it difficult to locate whales and we would have to get dangerously close to view an iceberg. We will not compromise safety. We can still offer a quality experience however when there is some fog but when the visibility is less than .25 of a mile it can make it difficult to accomplish. In such circumstances,
we are forced to cancel.

This is not just an iceberg tour. We are an award winning Iceberg, Whale and Seabird tour that is professional, educational and offers great value for your dollar. I understand that you where more interested in seeing icebergs but we also have to be sensitive to those that are on board to view whales. We could of spent more time with an iceberg but we would have had to go to a closer yet smaller iceberg to do it in the time frame that we had. We went for the distant iceberg instead so that you could experience the biggest and the best.

We normally circle the icebergs 1-2 times when sea conditions are favourable. Sometimes however we have to remain on the leeward side of an iceberg to ensure a comfortable and safe trip for our guests. The side of the iceberg that is taking the wind or swell often experiences unpredictable turbulent seas caused by backwash from the deeply submerged iceberg ice. This can cause sever side role and abrupt movement on the windward/swell side which can be a safety concern.

We do not ask for or expect tips, only acknowledge that we accept tips.

“Monster Iceberg and Hungry Humpbacks”
Reviewed July 10, 2012

There was rumor of a huge iceberg off-shore and I found Northland on a whim. The tour guide was entertaining and the Captain effectively kept feeding humpbacks and the monster iceberg in site.
