“Amazing Grace”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 18, 2013

Of all of the places that I visited in the five countries that I went to, this was the most dramatic. It was spiritually dramatic as well as culturally and historically dramatic. We were invited into the main church when the service was in progress. No seats. The holiness of the place brings you to your knees. I am not even a Catholic but can feel the presence of God. Many of the churches in Russia were beautiful but this was Holy. In another church in the complex we all crowded in and I noticed how tall the ceiling was and was looking for the choir. The music was so wonderful that I sat down on a bench that was in a corner next to the outer wall. Three women sat next to me. I was lost in the wonder of the room until I realized that they were the choir! God knows no country..all are one under Him. It is nice to experience it. The monks were about their business but so welcoming.

“The golden ring!”

a must stopover place whilst visiting the golden ring, might just be another collection of orthodox church but the architect is absolutely stunning! Just can't get enough of it!!

“Religion survives the Soviets!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 31, 2012

Absolutely beautiful The Russians are restoring their heritage and it is nice to see a functioning monastery in the former USSR. We visited with a Viking River Cruise tour and it was one of the best sites and side trips taken in 2 weeks. Definitely recommend if you have the time - it is a bus ride out of Moscow.

“Very Large”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 11, 2012

Well worth a detour. Numerous churches, relics, nice gardens, beautiful domes. Bit of a tourist trap, but worth it. Probably very crowded in tourist season.

“Like a fairytale.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 5, 2012

When visiting or living in Moscow Sergiyev Posad is probably one of the best day trips you can do. It's easy to get there and back again in one day on the train, it takes about 90 minutes. Once you arrive in Sergiyev Posad it's only a short walk to get to the Monastery (you just follow all the other people walking there). Then when you are nearly there you are greeted by one of the most amazing views in Russia. It is completely awe inspiring, just like something out of a fairytale. Once inside the walls you can spend a good few hours walking around exploring all the different buildings and churches. There are other Monasteries and Convents in and around Moscow such as the beautiful Novodevichy Convent in the centre of Moscow, but so far the Trinity Monastery of St. Sergius in Sergiyev Posad has been the most amazing.
