“the most relaxing break ever!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 20, 2012

My mum and I purchased Groupon deal for this place and had the most fantastic four day break. Chateau has so much French charm and character, every room is filled with antique furniture and books. Our room was very clean, spacious, with superbly comfortable beds and good quality bed sheets. Every morning we woke up to this idyllic French countryside landscape. Chef did a fantastic job every evening, producing tastiest gourmet dishes (all five of them!).
Anyone who's expecting 5* hotel experience can get disappointed, because it's more of holiday home rather than hotel. There are no maids changing towels and making up beds every day, no room service, mini bar, etc. It didn't even matter to us that most of the staff there don't actually speak English, it just gave us a chance to practice our French. However all we wanted was perfect French countryside views, good food and wine and relaxing time doing absolutely nothing!
Will definitely go back again!

The "Castle" was charming. We (my wife and another couple..good friends)...stayed in late July. The weather was magnificent making the drive to the Chateau through the Beaujolais countryside even more enchanting. We arrived at the pretty and quintessentially French Chateau. The welcome was warm and friendly. The room we stayed in was large and clean but not clinically so...therefore retaining the authentic country feel.
I loved the fact that the Chateau was "access all areas"...so much freedom to roam and explore with no pushy holiday reps.
Anyway..nice outside pool,great party...relaxing..
lovely staff....I could go on. !!!

My wife and I took advantage of a Groupon deal and had a wonderful, relaxing break at the Chateau. It is important to remember that this is not a hotel but a guest house situated in the midst of the beautiful French countryside. It is not as efficient as a big hotel, very little English is spoken, rooms are not cleaned on a daily basis and the Chateau lacks more mundain facilities such as TVs or phones in the rooms (although there is wifi, somewhat to my surprise). On the other hand, there is a slightly amateurish charm to the way the Chateau is run which makes for a break with far more character than you would find in a more corporate venue.
We didn't hire a car and so were picked up from Lyon airport. It is an hour's drive from there, which means that you leave the slightly unimpressive countryside around Lyon for the much more pleasant Beaujoulais countryside.
Our room, at the back of the ground floor was astounding: huge and beautiful. Despite the age of the building and the room, the bathroom was modern with an excellent shower (and all toiletries etc. - if they aren't there just ask - as I say, they aren't totally professional and they do forget things).
The garden was beautiful with a stunning view of the vinyards going down to the centre of Chenas. The pool is very quirky looking and totally unheated so quite cold still in July.
The Chateau's own wine is very good - more body than the Beaujoulais you typically buy in the UK. They also sell a Vin de France red which tastes like it is Australian - one to avoid. There are Caves all around. We visited a larger place in Chenas which allowed us to taste and buy wines from Chenas and Moulin a Vent as well as some decent Burgundy. Also a very nice Cremany de Bourgogne.
The food is lovely as well as the way it is served. Again, this isn't restaurant food. It feels like a dinner party being given by a rather good amateur cook. Everyone sits around large tables - although you are able to keep to yourself if you wish. There is no choice and, although there is a menu board it often isn't used, so you don't know what you're going to eat until it is front of you. I don't know if they can cater for vegetarians, I would check before booking if I was you.
There is a great little, local's restaurant in Chenas..and that is all. We fancied some bread and saucison for lunch one day and had to walk 50 mins to the nearest town of any size to find even the most basic shops. It was a very pleasant, easy walk.
With the Groupon deal this was exceptional value - even with the somewhat large bar bill! I don't think they ever charge what Groupon say they do - if they do it would be too expensive.
We had a fabulous time and would heartily recommend it to someone who wants a relaxing break with some real character and a lot of charm.
P.S. There is a spa (actually just a sauna). We didn't use it so I can't comment.

My wife, daughter and I stayed at Chateau Lambert for three nights, we loved the Chateau and the staff were very nice - though our lack of french was at times a bit challenging - the staff all seemed to have some english. Our room was fantastic with a small screen separating the two beds. The original floors(from a few hundred years ago) - wide wood planks painted white - were charming though there was an occasional nail sticking out that one needed to be aware of. The bathroom was really nicely done as well with two sinks and two showers with lots of reclaimed wood(which served as a privacy wall) as well as a towel warmer - I thought it was odd that with so many nice touches the toilet seat was cheap plastic, but this was only a minor complaint. I loved the photos of the room as it previously existed. We did not rent a car and instead relied on our feet - to walk to a nearby town and restaurant(approximately 4 kms away). We tried and failed to go to one of the many nearby vineyards - I think this was the one area of annoyance for me - though it was my fault - wine is such an integral part of this area even though we drank more then our fair share, and there is a vineyard at the Chateau, it would have been nice to visit one of the many near by vineyards. As for the Chateau itself - Quentin, the son of the proprietor, picked us up at the train station in Macon and we were dropped off at the airport at the end of our stay. With two exceptions, we had all of our meals at the Chateau - we tried a local restaurant which was fantastic for lunch one day. Breakfast was basic, but fine - croissant, fruit, yogurt, cereal, cheese, juices and ham or some other meat - coffee was eh, but everything else was good. Dinner's were tasty, as well. The Chateau itself is beautifully done with a billiards/games room, front and rear gardens, as well as a lovely pool area - it would have been better if the weather was more cooperative, but it was not bad. Also, some garden areas needed more care(cut the lawn, remove broken pool furniture), but this was just one of a few odd things that made the place seem more low key. It was a great place to spend three days and I recommend it for a relaxing time.

I cannot praise this short break highly enough from the very warm welcome we got on arrival to the fantastic party that Siegried organised on our last night. The staff were very friendly, the food delicous & the wine equally as good. The Chateau itself is one to behold, especially hearing the history of the place - we were very fortunate to have been given room 6 which is one of the biggest most luxurious rooms that has been very tastefully renovated with an equally luxurious bathroom (2 showers & 2 sinks). I cannot find a single negative comment to make & hope that we can visit there again in the future.

Room Tip: Ask for room 6 & you will be delighted I'm sure

Our two day trip via Groupon was OK. The reviews here had me expecting much more. The house is beautiful and it couldn't really be helped that it rained a lot but what was a disappointment was the dud room we were allocated at the back of the property on the ground floor. It was very small and dark and as the weather was no good, not a particularly appealling place to spend the day! The staff were very helpful and friendly and the surroundings and the house were very beautiful. The food was ok but certainly very far from special and breakfast was quite measly. There were no toiletries in the bathroom (I had not brought soap, assuming this would be provided) and there was no maid service in the day which meant we returned to our room in the exact state we had left it, which wasn't bad - but certainly unexpected! This trip was planned as a celebration and was long awaited. It was pleasant but not quite as good as I expected.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the first floor looking out over the pool NOT the garden.

We went to stay at Chateau Lambert via a Groupon offer, for two nights and had an almost magical time!
The warm welcome immediately made us feel at ease, as well as the welcome drink that followed. The weekend was filled with superb food (in large quantities), excellent service and great wellness moments. We took the opportunity to also enjoy some wine tasting, on and off the domain and were pleasantly surprised.
The owner and staff do everything they can to make your stay as agreeable and memorable as possible!
