“Excellente service”
Reviewed April 5, 2012

Peaceful place close to one of the most beautiful villages of France and near to Gorges du Verdun. Amazing service - first class! Beautiful country style rooms. Perfect for honeymoon.
The restaurant however, was not so good as we expected. Definitely worthwhile if you`re visiting Provence.

My daughter and I did a mother-daughter trip through France and decided to spend two nights here. I am marking it as romantic for couples because I should have come here with my husband! My daughter and I had a wonderful, fun time also but the setting is very quiet and atmospheric and would be a great place to celebrate a special event. As with the other reviewers, you come here for the food which is impeccable and wonderful. The staff was also friendly, warm and gracious. On the day we left we had to be to the airport fairly early and the staff got up (very early, 5:00 a.m.!) and prepared breakfast for us. It was very beyond the call of duty but typical of the service of this incredible place.
I would come back here in a heartbeat. I highly recommend the inn and the restaurant. Was truly memorable.

Room Tip: All are beautiful.

Stayed here for 4 nights in April, and had the little cottage (near the entrance to the estate) to ourselves. Everything here is over the top - beautiful, comfortable, luxurious - from the grounds, to the bed linens, the services and amenities, and of course Alain Ducasse's cuisine. This was definitely a place that we will remember forever.

Gorgeous property and nicely decorated rooms. The service was warm with a tour of 3 rooms in the main house that were available and a quick history lesson of the town & chateau. Be sure to walk through the vegetable gardens and visit the friendly animals who call this home as well. Our only regret was that we did not partake of the restaurant but, the food smelled wonderful and we saw the chefs gathering herbs & eggs for breakfast. We did not realize that customers will fly in by helicopter to this famous Chef's restaurant! So much for doing your homework. Perfect place for an engagement or anniversary or even wedding!

Room Tip: The room above the kitchen was warm & toasty.

We only had dinner at La Bastide de Moustiers because the hotel was fully booked. The experience was above any expectation, from food to service to wine selection to location.

This is definitely a place where we would return, next time booking very much in advance to stay in the hotel too!

We stayed two nights. The room was lovely and the service was excellent. It was still warm enough for dinner to be served on the beautiful terrace. The food is well prepared and they focus on ingredients from the large "kitchen" garden. The hotel is a small exclusive oasis.

Room Tip: We only viewed the one that we stayed in but are certain they are all well appointed and quiet.

Somewhat of a long review, but because our stay made such an impression. La Bastide de Moustiers combines simple elegance with charm, quietude, class... and a wonderful Alain Ducasse inspired Michelin-rated restaurant.

My wife and I and our traveling companions began the day with a drive through the 700 meter deep Gorges de Verdon (also referred to as the Grand Canyon du Verdon). It is a beautiful drive (pay attention around the numerous sharp curves!) with scenic lookouts down to the turquoise-green river below. If you like rock climbing and kayaking, this is a great location.

The drive drops you off in the west very close to the village of Moustiers-Sainte-Marie. While it has the usual touristic shops, it has a unique charm and "off the beaten path" quality that makes it special. At the foot of steep limestone cliffs and with a couple of small stone-channeled streams in the village, if makes for a delightful morning or afternoon stroll.

But the real charm of the area is the Bastide de Moustiers. Hidden down a non-descript narrow rural road, the beautiful locked iron gate with manicured flower garden provides a very pleasant welcome. [We had phoned in the mid-morning to see if massages might be available for the afternoon. The young lady on the phone spoke perfect English and called us back in ten minutes to confirm four massages (for us and our traveling companion couple) were arranged beginning at 3pm that afternoon. We called about 2:30pm to let then know we would be arriving right at 3pm and to assure the masseuse that we were indeed going to be on there, albeit 5-10 minutes late!] When we press the call button for entrance at the gate, a charming voice welcomed us by name and opened the gate for us. The promenade was beautiful, soothing, with fresh flowers and lavender framing the slight winding drive to the main house.

At the main house, we were met by two smiling, sharp young attendants who opened the doors and helped with the luggage. We received a brief but enchanting tour of the main house and were then led to our rooms.

Oh my... what a special suite we enjoyed: La Chambre Blanche. Our friends stayed in an accompanying building in the Suite Olive, complete with fireplace and old-world sitting area. Our room was immaculate, complete with a personal hard-written note from the concierge. The white linen, spacious bedroom, and large, airy bathroom with large inet shower-tub made a great impression. The warm aromas of the fresh flowers and candles added to the impression. The faucets and handles were what you would expect from a early 20th-Century high quality French Inn and completed in the decor with the Haut French country feel.

We made our way to the pool which was serene with great chaise lounges and a nice selection of reading material. One by one, each of us enjoyed a massage from a local masseuse in a room adjacent to the pool (call ahead for a massage as there is not a masseuse on staff). The staff brought us each a fresh iced tea made from the herbs in the garden on the property. The property, I believe, is about 5-6 acres.

The air was warm, dry, and the view of the surrounding hilly countryside was intoxicating.

Dinner that evening was wonderful. I have read a few of the reviews that were not as impressed, but for us the staff, food and ambiance were outstanding in every regard. We sat on the terrace as the sun began to slowly fade behind the hills on the far side of the valley. We were taken by the professionalism, attentiveness and ease at which the young wait staff operated. They looked almost too young to be serving at a Micehlin restaurant, but they quite impressive, and clearly very well schooled in their craft.

The meal was superb, well apportioned, delicious, and accompanied with very nice pairings of local white and red wines. There were a couple of fun surprises along the way, and we found ourselves still enjoying the last pieces of cheese and dessert with our Sauterne past 11pm.

After dinner, we received a tour of the wine cellar from the restaurant manager (sorry Mr. Manager, he told us not to tell but it was pretty cool so you might ask to take a look after dinner!).

We enjoyed a french breakfast the next morning in the front courtyard (a few bees as our breakfast mates), and walked the grounds and sat on some chairs near an herb garden to ease into the morning.

We only stayed one evening but would have enjoyed another. Yes, it can be expensive. But for us, it was a real treat that delivered beyond our expectations. At La Bastide, you get what you pay for... and then some. A wonderful mix of refined class with the appropriate amount of under-statedness. The staff was memorable and attentive. Delightful. The serenity, cuisine and rooms combined to make this a very special stay.

We cannot give a higher recommendation.

Room Tip: La Chambre Blanche is perfect for a romantic, relaxing getaway. Ask for its availability.
