We went to Hermann on the train from St. Louis for the day. It was a Monday during Octoberfest, so we thought most places would be open. Many were, but we heard many times, "this is Octoberfest and we were really busy over the weekend, so we are out of (fill in the blank). Tim Mill has a sign in front of the restaurant "Monday Special - Prime Rib". We decided early in the day we would have dinner there before our train departure. When we went in the atmosphere was very Bar/Pub-type in one half - older, wood-paneled, restaurant in the other half. The bar side was very, very loud. Now it was Cardinal's playoff, so we understood the reason for the noise, but the design was very poor for a restaurant charging such prices. The menu had Prime Rib (queen cut $26, king $36). Naturally, we assumed by the sign that there was something special about Monday. No - they were offering it all month during October. They just keep the sign up all year. We ordered the prime rib and there was nothing prime about it. The flavor was flat and several of us did not receive as we ordered - way too done. The waitress was nice enough, but not knowledgeable and had to ask someone else the answer to most of our questions. This took a long time. We asked for horseradish sauce - again, she was gone for quite a while and finally returned saying, "we are out of it." Then, when we were almost finished eating the chef came to our table with a dish of horseradish sauce! He said, "We were so busy over the weekend, but I just made some up for you." Too late.
Also, they only serve Hermanhoff and Dierberg wines - I understand they are the owners, so that makes sense, but, again - the prices are way too high and do not coincide with the atmosphere and wine selection.
We won't be going back .

We stopped in after the wineries closed. It was a beautiful day and there was a great band playing in the outdoor Biergarten. We had a great time - definitely recommend!

If you want to kick back and enjoy a drink and some fantastic food you Must stop in and have a drink at the bar with Tiara who is so upbeat and friendly that you will want to stay the afternoon. They offer full sit down meals as well as bar food along with a full bar for your choice if drinks. I would recommend the blackberry whiskey. It’s off the chart good with a smooth taste and is refreshing served neat or on the rocks.

Met Kevin, the manager on our 3rd trip in to have just one more of their brews! I loved the Hard Apple Cider and they sell half pints for us tee totalers! Brat and kraut was great and bun was toasted. Will plan to stop there everytime we are in Hermann.
