The farm tram tour is worth it! This was one of the best things we did on our little get away to Hermann. It was the most authentic part of the trip and as it turns out one of the only things open on a Wednesday- be warned If you go to Hermann they don't "do Tuesdays or Wednesdays..." But the farm is open and the staff is very nice and we were lucky enough to have a tour guide that had family in town for at least three generations so she gave a lot of first hand information about the town history and county as well. The buildings are air conditioned and have been kept in very good shape. This was the bright spot in our trip and ended in a lovely visit to the new distillery - Black Shire Distillery.
The Guide was very informative and the buildings and implements were keep in good shape. We also learned about the largest horse breed in the world, the Shire.
we did the Hermann farm tour and it was so fun and relaxing! we learned so much and the views were spectacular! you can see the town from way high up on the hills. I cant wait to go back.
My wife and I toured the farm and were impressed with the views and history of the Hermann area. The young lady along the tour gave us an informative showing of the history of the Black Shire horses. The tour guide was born and raised in Hermann and gave us information from first hand experience. The planned distillery will enhance the attractiveness of the area. I would recommend the tour when visiting Hermann.
We visited Hermann Farm during this year's Christkindl Market in town. This site opened in 2016 and has been busy restoring and reconstructing historic buildings on the 200 acre property. We purchased the $18 per person tour on faith and were not disappointed. We got a private driving/walking tour of the property and saw a family cemetery and the restored mansion and outbuildings of the Husmann family who helped to pioneer Hermann's wine industry. The site is also raising and training Black Shire draft horses. We were invited to try out a carriage ride pulled by these magnificent animals! Farther into the property they have recreated a beautiful log cabin from the 1850's which was decorated for Christmas. The farm has been busy adding buildings that can serve as wedding venues and also a distillery. There is so much to see here.
We've been to Hermann several times and this is now my favorite place to visit. The farm is now closed for the winter but will reopen in May. Highly recommend.
