“Gorgeous!”

Beautiful rooms, the tour guide was very knowledgeable and friendly. Wasn't as cool as I would have liked but there might be a credible reason for that

“An impromptu visit”
Reviewed July 6, 2013

My daughter & I made last minute decision to visit Hannibal, our primary reason was to visit Twain's hometown. Knowing little about the Mansion except for casual online reading, I was impressed by Juan's accommodating response (via phone) to my request for accommodations. I took a 3rd floor room. What a pleasant, unexpected surprise: greeted by wine & cheese while we sat on breezy side porch; inside, surrounded by authentic period furniture at every turn; delicious breakfast next morning; such gracious and knowledgeable hosts in both Juan and his partner, Warren. We were there for Mark Twain, but the stay at the Mansion was the high point. We'll return and be better prepared to appreciate all the wonders this mansion holds and the restoration work which has made, and continues to make, it such a very special place. Once gone, we kept thinking of all the questions we should have asked but were too stunned by this our first visit. My daughter is 50; I'm 72. So "sort of visit" doesn't fit.

“The house is amazing!”
Reviewed June 27, 2013

Each room has a story and the size of the mansion and the stories behind it will fascinate. The new owner seems to really enjoy the house as much as past owners must of. He is still remodeling and will rent it out. I am happy that someone is taking the time to preserve the history when you find out how long it sat empty.

“Incredible restored Mansion”
Reviewed June 19, 2013

If you like old houses with beautiful architectural detail, you will love this. The original owner spared no expence on the home, bringing building materials and furniture from all over the world. The new owner(3 years) gives the tours to the fully furnished home. You get to visit all 3 floors. It was all very interesting. Not a good tour for small children

“Mystery of the Mansion”
Reviewed June 18, 2013

I took the tour of Rockcliffe Mansion and found it to be an intriguing and inspiring time! I was intrigued by the story of Rockcliffe as told by it's current owner and a former resident of the home.
My family has traveled many times to the Scottish Highlands and toured many Manor Houses, castles etc. and this was very similar in style to some of the best preserved historic homes there.
I loved the fact that most of the furnishings were from the original owners...even a closet with clothing from the 1920's. Books untouched for almost 100 years still behind the leaded-glass doors where the owner left them, safe and secure.

The story of the mansion will intrigue you and leave you with a sense of wonder at how this home was left in sort of a "time capsule" for over 40 years and escaped demolition by only a few days!

The added historical feature of Mark Twain having been the honored guest/speaker in one of his last visits to Hannibal made the visit to the mansion even more memorable.

Worth the climb to the top of the "Rock Cliff" to see this Gem of a home.
