Purina farms used to have a prominent sign indicating where to turn off of Hwy 100 but the sign is no longer there. It is easy to miss the turn, which is right by the Phillps 66 Gas Station. There is ample free parking and the area is clean and well maintained. There is a reception area where you can visit a gift shop or buy snacks. It has a very small town, old fashioned feel to it - nothing like an amusement park or even the zoo. From there, you can enjoy a walk outside and check out the koi pond where the kids can get up close and personal with the fish. Then it is on down to the barn area to see the animals. There is small area with seating that contains small animals for kids to pet. There is an attendant there (to watch the animals - not babysit). The animals out when were were there included a baby rabbit, and a couple young piglets. Much more enjoyable then the aggressive goats at Grant's Farm. There are ducks and geese outside, horses in stables, cows with calves and pigs to check out. Upstairs has some play tables set up with dried corn and toy farm vehicles for kids to play with, along with some tunnels to explore and small rope swing. The "Haunted" barn section wasn't open yet when we there, but it was getting prepped for Halloween. Lastly, we checked out the dog show. You sit in very close to the show which involves the dogs jumping in water, catching frisbees and running agility courses. They do a great job with these dogs who seemed to enjoy the opportunity to show off. A young girl celebrating her birthday there (they host birthday parties but I can't really comment on that as we didn't attend) was brought up to be part of the show on her special day. All in all, it was a fun day for young kids that you can easily enjoy in a 2 hour visit.

We visited during Fall Break with a 6 and 8 year old. They enjoyed the hands on experience with rabbits, pigs and chickens. Also attended the dog show which was fun. I wouldn't go out of my way to come here though. Was crowded with field trip children also and we weren't able to see or do the cow milking demonstration due to the number of people.

Younger children will really love getting up close to the animals. The barn area had sheep, horses, calves, chickens, rabbits, pigs, ducks, miniature horses, and a donkey. The baby pigs were especially fun to watch, running around chasing each other like little puppies! The dog show is amazing and the dogs in the show are the personal pets of the handlers. The history of Ralston-Purina is very interesting for adults, more so than for children, probably because there are a lot of nostalgic things in the displays. But there are an equal number of things that children will enjoy more (hayride, milking a cow, etc.).
