Just recently, my daughter and I have "discovered" Ferguson. I have lived in St Louis for 35 plus years, and just recently visited Ferguson for the first time. It turns out I've been missing out! This is a nice little restaurant on a small hill right off of South Florissant Road in downtown Ferguson. It is located adjacent to an old railroad track. The inside is configured as if it were a train depot,. You order your food at the "arrivals" window and pick it up at the "departures" window. Your receipt for your food is a "boarding pass" with your order # on it. Various sandwiches and the like are available. We just ordered a sundae and a concrete (these are made with custard and can be turned upside down without spilling). Normally, the concretes in St Louis come with vanilla custard with other ingredients being mixed in. However, The Whistle Stop also has chocolate custard, which is very rich and yummy! Prices are reasonable, service is good. Definitely worth a try!!

I love the unique set up of the place. It's specials are the best anywhere. You get a sandwich, cup of soup, and their custard for around $7-8 ( I can't remember if you get a drink with that). The staff is flexible for kids and very friendly.

Visited the Whistle Stop on a Saturday afternoon - Love the interior design with the railroad memorabilia and was pleasantly surprised to find a local telegraph operators group holding their meeting during our visit. One member of the group took time from his lunch to welcome us, explain the equipment in the permanent static display and make us welcome.

The sandwiches were fresh, well made and tasted great. Portion sizes were more than adequate, and we were introduced to Billygoat Chips! Definitely a place to put on your list to stop at while in the St Louis area!

Its a great place for a fresh throw back sandwich. If you like the better chicken or tuna salad sandwich, you will like this place. I haven't tried the ice creams, but a lot of grandparents prefer to take their little ones there for a treat, they love it.

Whistle Stop Frozen Custard calls a historic train depot home. Historic information and local trivia fills the walls. It's a very family-friendly venue, and includes indoor and outdoor seating. Patrons can watch trains go by on the Norfolk-Southern freight line from the wrap-around deck.

Service is fast and efficient. Order your railway-themed menu items at the window (formerly the ticket window) and you'll be given a "ticket" - when your number is called, pick up your food at the window. Lunch items include sandwiches, salads, and soups. The Tolono, a grilled chicken sandwich with roasted red peppers and provolone, is quite tasty. Menu includes several meatless offerings. Sandwiches are served with potato chips from Billy Goat Chips, a local, all-natural company. Toasted ravioli - a local favorite - are served hot and crispy.

Frozen custard desserts are worth the trip from several suburbs away. The prices are very reasonable. Want just a taste? You can have a tiny cone with just a squirt of custard (a few bites) for about fifty cents. For a bigger sweet tooth, try the shakes, sundaes, and other concoctions. The Smoke Stack, a "vertical banana split", is our family's favorite.

Whistle Stop is now open for dinner on select nights. For fall 2012, hours are 10 am to 8 pm on Thursdays and Saturdays. It's a great place for lunch on Saturdays after visiting the nearby Farmers' Market.
