“Well executed cuisine”
Reviewed April 22, 2014

The variety of offerings was nice, and everyone enjoyed their meals. The prices were a little high, but in keeping with the resort. The service is personable, but perhaps a little too unhurried. I think that given the nature of this property, it would be difficult to keep excess staff on hand. Since it is a spa setting, the assumption is that the guest is in a relaxed mode, and for the most part, we were. I think this would be a great place to have a wedding, conference, or reunion.

“Fell way short of expectations”
Reviewed April 21, 2014

Biggest positive is the atmosphere - but that only goes so far. My starter - scallops wrapped in prosciutto - was by far the highlight of meal. Excellent. For main I had the pork chop. Big disappointment - not much flavor, on dry and tough side. Though the Brussels sprout side was very good. The bread they brought us had a very funny taste - that a companion described as musty, I described as moldy - though none was visible. Service was lacking. We finished dinner and still had empty drink glass on our table that we had carried from bar. Expect better for prices in the $ 25-30 range.

“Massage and a room”
Reviewed March 4, 2014

We didn't stay in the room that Harry Truman slept in, but it's a great historic hotel.
Had a couples massage and used the spa.
Relaxing get-away weekend

“New food new attitude.”
Reviewed February 27, 2014 via mobile

There's a new menu at the elms hotel and spa in excelsior springs mo. I've eaten here many many times as well as most cities with a claim to great food. As well as the plaza in downtown KC where all the big players reside (Ruth's Chris, Capital grill). But there's a new player at the table. 88 at the Elms just served me the best sea bass I've ever had. Can't wait to try the rest of the menu. From one foodee to the rest. Drive north a few minutes when you're in KC. You won't be sorry.

“Restaurant...just not good and over priced!!!”
Reviewed February 21, 2014

Bring back the buffet! The restaurant is overpriced and just ok. The Friday night all you could eat crab and prime rib was awesome but we settled to visit and see the remodel....a waste of time and money. The food was ok and completely over priced!!!!! URGH you are in Excelsior Springs accommodate your guests and the locals you are not on the Plaza
