There's nothing wrong with Joe Boccardi's that a week with Gordon Ramsay wouldn't fix - that is to say, everything is currently wrong with the place.
The service is subpar. Waitstaff stood around gossiping with each other while cleaning silverware and arguing about who was covering which table. Our group was told that one gal would be with us; suddenly, another gal hopped in and took our drinks instead (which they proceeded to bicker about right in front of us). Having the checkout in the middle of the diners is also a thumbs down. Added to the lack of privacy and immersion was the fact that everyone from the back of the house stuck their heads out to peer at the diners. It was very unnerving.
And the food ... the food! The pizza was okay, but the bread they served for starters tasted bland and store-bought. Salads were so-so; and anyone could make better pasta dishes at home. But the real kicker is the Roast Beef with Provel that was plated. Astonishingly bad. The bread was soggy and mushed on the plate. The roast beef was covered with what tasted like mushroom gravy (hence the state of the bread). This in an Italian restaurant, and for the prices they charge!
To cork it, the waitress never even commented on my mostly untouched sandwich. She just mutely dumped unasked-for takeout boxes in front of my husband. Absolute waste of a meal.
