“Campground okay, Staff sucks.”

Campground mediocre. getting business from 6 flags. nothing special. Staff very unfriendly. no activities, gatherings, or get togethers for campers. office/store only open until 8 pm. I would have not written this review at all if staff knew the sentence, "Hi, How are you?" It's very 'cold' in Eureka.

We spent one night at the St. Louis West/Route 66 KOA and switched the next morning. The campground is located between a noisy freeway and train tracks. Yes, the trains were frequent on the tracks. While the people in the office were friendly, the facilities were very dated and in need of an overhaul. The sites were mud/sand/gravel. In the rain, it made a big mess in the camper and there was no place to get away from it. You cannot have campfires in most sites because of city ordinance. At $40 a night, we were definitely disappointed. We moved to Babbler State Park. Its about 10 minutes up the road and ten times nicer. For just $17/night (off season) the facilities were nicer. Its in a QUIET location and the gates closed at 9pm, meaning no one is pulling their rig in late at night. The electric sites had a large cement pad, big enough for the trailer and picnic table. The kids could play on it and there wasn't any mud being tracked inside. I would highly recommend this state park over the KOA.

We rated this campground "above average" due to the cleanliness of the campsites, restroom / shower area, the pool and the friendliness of the campground staff. Firewood purchased from the office was more than adequate for the evening and the prices at the campground store were reasonable. There are numerous restaurants and a Walmart within a couple of miles of the campground making it convenient for any needed supplies. We have camped at this campground on 3 occasions and will stay there again and recommend it to others. The only drawback is the slightly noticeable traffic noise from I-44 but this is tolerable.
