It's been a few years since I've been to Fiji (2007), but it Robinson Crusoe Island was one of my favorite places to stay!!
The food was wonderful, the activities were very fun, there was plenty of time to just kick back and relax, the staff was amazing and friendly, and it was an overall beautiful place to go! Make sure you stay a night or two to avoid the day crowd!
If I find myself back in Fiji, I will find my way back to Robinson Crusoe Island!!

Don't go. No just kidding. I love it when the place is quiet, but it's nice to meet new friends as well. I went to RCI in October, have just returned from 11 nights and booked for April. Miss my Island family. Won't mention everyone cos they are all wonderful.
I won't tell you what happens on the island there are plenty of reviews on here to read.
Go for a few days, go for a week or a month, but just go. You will never experience anything like this. You can do day trips from the island if you want. I spent most of my time in my hammock. Rain? Did it? Oh I didn't notice. Having too much fun. Guess that's what happens in the wet season, nowhere near as much as Nadi tho.
Sue took the guests to Natadola Beach for the day just to get off the island, and that was wonderful, although we all wanted to get back to our island home.
Wayne has wonderful plans for upgrading the island, and building treetop accommodation for families, and the new shower/toilet block is looking great thanks to Dav's hard work. :)
To all my wonderful Fijian family, Vinaka Vaka Levu, i c u baby (on the 19th April)

My friend and I went as a last minute New Years trip. We planned to stay for 5 nights and were originally wondering if that would be too long on one island...but we ended up extending our stay for our whole fijian trip...we just couldn't leave!

Great place to either just chill and read books all day, or keep active all day with things like snorkelling, kayaking, swimming, and joining in on the cultural activities.

evenings are the best, watching the sunset, listening to the staff sing and play, drinking kava, playing silly games, making new friends.

Staff went above and beyond for everything. Fellow travellers were just beautiful. Accomodation is comfortable and buckets showers are so easy to use and really refreshing in the heat.

Go. You won't regret it.

I've just got back from spending 5 amazing days at Robinson Crusoe Island with my sister, and can honestly say it is my new favourite place.
From the moment you arrive you are made to feel at home and everyone is treated like an equal. Everyone on the island is super friendly from the owners and managers to the reception staff, kitchen girls and all the crew.
We met some amazing like minded people at RCI and had the time of our lives. Most days there is a cultural show, which is awesome during the day, but mind blowing at night. The food is great and the accomodation basic but clean. I never thought I would love wearing no shoes and having cold showers for 5 days... but I did.
Days here are lazy and the nights really fun. After dinner there is usually a Kava ceremony, followed by games and some dancing.
I cannot recommend RCI enough, and can't wait to get back to see all the people that make it so great.

Bula Everybody,

This was my second time to Robinson Crusoe Island (RCI). Three years ago, I had the time of my life on the Island. Upon returning this month for four nights, I wasn’t disappointed, infact I felt as though I was coming home.
RCI is a MUST for backpackers / youth travelers when in the Pacific. You’ll meet likeminded people, relax, eat, drink, laugh, explore, read, walk, swim, and so on. I didn’t want to leave, and I wish I was still there.

The day trip is great for groups and families, but the overnight guests (known as Islanders) can enjoy all the fun as well, at no additional cost.

The food is fantastic, and included in the cost of accommodation. Breakfast is usually a little light, with pancakes, cereals and toast. But lunch and dinner are a buffet feast. There is plenty of choice, and you won’t go hungry. The coconut fruit salad is to die for!
There are plenty of options for vegetarians as well (Rices, salads, veggies, etc. And heaps of Potatoes).

The hammocks are amazing... they're basically floating chairs. The beach, the snorkeling, the kayaks, etc... all to be enjoyed, & get a massage on an outdoor massage table (I had two).

I didn’t wear shoes at all, not even thongs. This is the island for those who love to be bare foot.

The most amazing aspect of RCI other than the natural beauty, is the staff. Everyone is caring and friendly. They will cater to your every need, and keep you laughing... all the time! A big shout out to Nelson and Serena! You guys rock!!!
It's fair to say that everyone at RCI made us feel at home, like real Islanders.

My friends and I loved every moment. We will be back, again & again!!!

A big Vinaka vaka-levu to everyone at Robinson Crusoe Island!

Ben

I just got back from a fantastic week on RCI. From the moment I arrived on the island I was an islander - I even got dressed up in traditional costume to welcome a night trip!. The staff were so friendly, but Rico was the man. This is dedication for you - he had 3 days off while I was there, but was always doing something 'just to help out'. He made my stay, along with Nelson, Tuks, Fraser, Phillip, Lex, David, Seb, Roko and all the guys and girls. They are all so happy, maybe a bit happy for 6am when I'm trying to sleep, but I wasn't needing much energy.
If you're expecting a 5 star resort then this is not what your looking for. If you want a holiday where you can relax if you want, or you can mingle and meet others, or you can do lots of different activities then this is the place for you. Lazy Mondays and Islander Friday's are the best as there are no 'invaders'. Invaders are the day trippers that come for the day and the fantastic show. Even when they arrive you can find yourself a nice little spot up the beach away from it all or you can join in the turtle viewing, crab racing, snorkelling, etc. The food is wonderful - a lovo everytime there is a day trip, plus simple food when there isn't we had hamburgers, curries, and my favourite was a spinach and coconut cream dish that I will try to recreate at home, recipe please kitchen staff? Don't forget to let them know if you have any food allergies as they will cater to your every need, and if you don;t like something let them know. I hate curry so they whipped me up a quick stir fry.
I went on a dive and had a great time, Sharon held my hand the whole time as I was a bit nervous being only my 2nd dive, my first was in hawai'i and this was jusst as great. Saw a couple of reef sharks. Captain Fraser always knows te good spots :).
I made some great new friends with other travellers. It didn;t matter that I was travelling alone, we did everything together, even a few of us went to Liti's house on the mainland and went to church with her. Wonderful experience - do it if you can.
Staff were always cleaning, ok so it's not luxury but it's amusing having a bucket shower and it's clean. I stayed in the Bure Lai Lai, and it was so cute, perfect for a single traveller, or two friends who want separate rooms could stay in the two across from each other. They are a bit close to the main area though, which means no early nights as the music is on until the generator goes off at midnight, and early mornings when the staff get up to clean the toilets. My one suggestion would be to move them (haha) failing that I would get the staff to turn the music down if no one is dancing. Sometimes we couldn't just sit and talk as it was too loud. Most times it didn't matter though as no one really wanted to go to bed before the generator went off as we were hanging with our new friends and drinking Kava if we wanted.
I was a bit worried about the fact that I was booked in to RCI for my whole stay (except my first night in Nadi) and I wouldn' t be able to do any tours. Maureen emailed me a lot to answer all my questions and reassured me, but once I got to the island I didn;t want to leave - so I didn't (well except for church). I thought about doing a day trip to another island, but why leave home when you've got it on your doorstep? The water may not be as clear on the beach as other islands in the Yasawas, but there are some nice spots on the island and the pool is great too.
I'm already planning my trip back in December/January and this time I'll be staying for longer. I cried my eyes out when it came time to leave - well actually from the moment I woke up that morning - I really felt like I belonged there and that I wasn't meant to be coming home. I've travelled a lot and NEVER experienced being so welcomed. Graham - I have 6 weeks please let's work out a way for a kids club or me to do something. I'd love to come and stay/work there. I'll do it for FREE!!!!
Lastly, I say go with an open mind. Let yourself experience traditional Fijian life. You'll meet some new friends and see the best fire dancers in Fiji. I miss everyone and I C U baby.
