“Beautifully renovated B&B with great location and value”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 11, 2011

We usually stayed in the B&Bs in Rocheport wine country, so this was the first time we stayed in Columbia itself ... I think for now on, we'll stay at The Gathering Place! It was so centrally located to everything in Columbia and a much better value than Rocheport. The building was beautifully renovated - for February, it was very cozy and warm for an old building, and very contemporary with electronically coded locks and HD TVs in the rooms. Debbie was just wonderful as a hostess and the college students who serve breakfast were very professional and courteous. We liked that we could choose a la carte items for breakfast if we didn't prefer the special, which was different from most other B&Bs we'd been to. They had a single-serve coffee/tea maker available at all hours for guests, which was nice, but it would have been nice to have cookies or chocolate set out to munch on in the evening after dinner as well - I've seen this at most other B&Bs - but it certainly didn't make our stay any less enjoyable. They also brought in a DVD player at our request and were very accommodating in every way. I'd definitely recommend it!

We stayed a couple of nights at this B&B in Columbia, Missouri. It is well located, right next to the University of Missouri and has good access and parking. It was previously a fraternity house that was converted to a B&B. It is very clean and comfortable. All rooms have individual climate controls. We stayed there in a very cold period and never felt the cold. All of the amenities are very nice, from the flooring, decoration to the toilet paper. The breakfast was very good and you have a wide range of choices in terms of when you want to eat and the things you want to eat. The room rate is comparable to somewhat upper level motels such as Hampton Inns.

My wife and I have travelled to Columbia, Missouri or St. Louis a number of times the last twenty years, staying at the various major hotel suites with jucuzzi.
It was my wife's birthday and our 37th Anniversary so we were looking for a special get -away before we cruised to the Bahamas, which we thought would be the highlight for us.
We arrived in Columbia in the early afternoon on the tenth of November- a beautiful, autumn day. We were welcomed graciously by Debbie, without one comment about being so early.
The exterior and interior was very nice, yes, extremely nicely, renovated, Victorian, three story living areas.
We were able to stay in the room with the king size bed and relaxing jucuzzi and updated facilities (including themostat) was superior to many of the suites of the major
hotels.
We slept terrific and we had been asked previously (the evening before ) of the time we preferred breakfast and just what all we wanted to eat??
Very early the next morning we came down to the beautiful dining area finding the breakfast items on the table, hot , inviting and tasty-with the portions larger than we imagined. So we had much, much more than we could eat--but it was all so good until we really tried to leave nothing! They were very polite as they inquired if all the food was prepared correctly and if anything else or more was wanted.
Seldom, even when we stay at the Marriott, Sheridan and/or the Raddison, etc - the serving of the food was so timely--the breakfast items were all hot or cold as they should have been. As soon as we finished one item, the next items were brought out.
Well, needless to say the Gathering Place won first place from our wonderful NCL Cruiseline in service and tastiness of the food and comfortable accomodations.

I normally stay with a friend when working in Columbia. So he was out of town for this visit I looked up B-n-B's instead of the chain hotels.

I'm glad I did and chose the Gathering Place!

I booked the cheapest/smallest room and it was perfect for a solo traveller. VERY clean and comfortable. I had a great night's rest. I did not get the gloomy feelings I get when staying in chain hotels while travelling alone for work. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

In fact, it was almost as good as staying at my friend's house in Columbia.

Good location for walking to the campus area restaurants and bars and within running distance to Stephen's Park.

We stayed at The Gathering Place for one night. Wished we had planned on staying longer. The bedroom and the separate sitting area were great. The bathroom was spacious. There is even a large TV in the sitting area. Breakfast was outstanding and one of the best we ever had in a B&B.! There is a choice of a breakfast special or build your own breakfast options. Guests can also choose when to arrive in the dining room for breakfast making the breakfast experience very flexible. We never saw any of the other guests until breakfast. The Gathering Place is part of the University of Missouri School of Agriculture.l
