“THE meal of our trip in St. Martin”
Reviewed June 19, 2013 via mobile

During our stay, we took advantage of St. Martin's moniker as "culinary capital of the Caribbean." We dined out at multiple nice places. We chose Le Santal for our anniversary night. First of all, as many reviewers have already said, the view of the water, and Anguilla, especially from one of the balcony tables is amazing. In my opinion, it even rivals the other amazing sea views in Grand Case. The food was high end French. We enjoyed raviolis with morels, escargot, châteaubriand (for two- AMAZING!) and a chocolate soufflé for two (also amazing). For us, with wine and everything, it was significantly more expensive than some of our other meals. However, we budgeted for it and for us it was worth it. There was nothing wanting with the food or the service. If you go during the low season, you will have the advantage of having very personal service. (I'm sure it's great during the high season, too, but I can't personally attest to that). It is a very romantic spot as well (as one can imagine from the many descriptions in multiple reviews). As for getting there, it's easy. I would argue that some reviews overdo it with the description of getting there. It's about the length of 2 long city blocks through a residential neighborhood. Because it's residential, there are lots of cars parked along the street and locals hanging out with each other or walking. If you've driven the 2 block one-way loop to get to the Grand Case dining street, it's nicer and easier (more roomy) than that. Highly recommend.

“The best of the best, bar none on St Martin”
Reviewed May 20, 2013

If you want to have the most memorable meal for you trip you must make your reservations and visit Le Santal. Getting to the restaruant is not simple and is not in the geratest neighborhood. get good directions. I never had issues but..
When we arrived we gave our car to their very nice parking attendent that was waiting for us (thus the reservation). We had an incredible table overlooking the Carribean looking out to Anguilla. The waves gently breaking 40 ft away. About every 30 min the owners daughters upstairs would blow hundreds of bubbles that floated over the water. It was wonderful under the lights.
The food and wine were exceptional. The price of the night was equal within $10 to the other meals at the wonderful restarants in Grand Case.
Again this is the best place on the island to eat.

“Great Atmosphere, Beautiful View”
Reviewed May 7, 2013

Don't be deterred by the drive to Le Santal. It is located in a residential neighborhood in Sandy Ground a bit off the beaten path. Upon arrival you will be met by a valet who will quickly park your car and then return it after you meal as though by magic. We were escorted to one of five small balconies directly overlooking water and enjoyed a beautiful sunset. While the ambience was very nice, the food was a bit spotty. The French Onion soup was very good, but the salad was very salty. My fish entre' was good, but not great. Overall a pleasant experience, but not a five star experience.

“A Dinner to Remember”
Reviewed May 6, 2013

My Wife and I went to Le Santal for our 30th Anniversary dinner. It was recommended to us by the one of the staff at our hotel. It was amazing! A little pricy, but so are a lot of the nice restaurants on the island. The view and the ambiance is excellent. The restaurant was located down a side road in Sandy Ground (just south of Marigot), so you won’t just run across this unless you are looking for it; but well worth the visit. If you are going to go, make a reservation and ask for a table in one of the cutouts overlooking the beach. Very romantic.

“On a rainy night, the place was still a shining star”
Reviewed April 17, 2013

From the moment we arrived, to the valet parking in an off neighborhood, we were amazed. Umbrella's and Valet started our night, but once we arrived into this quaint restaurant with amazing views, the calm of the night set in. We were seated at a waterfront table, with huge awnings that protected us from the downpours. Once the rain stopped, they rose the awnings, and the view was absolutely amazing. Clear calm waters, Anguilla, and Nettles Bay all a part of the fantastic view. The wine list is all french, and we definitely explored. Wine recommendation was fabulous. Menu was amazing. And, as the polite french do it, the men had menu's with prices and the women did not. This place was first class from the moment we arrived. They honor the $1 to 1 Euro, but they ask for tips in cash. They do accept Visa/Mastercard for payment of dinner. One of the best restaurants with the best ambiance in St Maarten that I have ever experienced. A must do. Reservations needed, and best tables are for parties of 4 or less.
