I have stayed here a number of times for work, one of the better hotels I have stayed at in the country. The rooms are the quality you would expect of a Ritz, though the balconies are a nice touch. Rooms are also very large. The staff is fantastic, very personable. The restaurants are OK, nothing fantastic, though the waiters i have had at both are great.

I attended a conference and the lobby and public spaces met the highest standard, as did service for the conference. My one bedroom "executive suite" was very quiet and spacious, especially the bathroom, with a nice balcony view of the plaza with fountain. The fitness center was excellent, and not crowded. The bed was extremely comfortable with great bedding. Unlike some luxury hotels the room has its own coffee maker and fridge (with a big can of great peanuts and other stuff). The area has some excellent restaurants within walking distance.
So why not perfect? Only the little stuff. Having drinks in the lobby, with one wrong drink order out of five people. Two clocks in the room, one not working and the other set to the wrong time (I love spending time figuring out how to set an unfamiliar clock). A terrific marble walk in shower with a door that would not close. A lovely looking robe that was too stiff and scratchy to wear. Innumerable towels, one of which had a black mark. A fitness center supposed to open at 5 am with a locked door at 5:10 am. The reception desk helpfully provided razor and shaving cream, but then never sent the promised after shave. $10 annoyance charge for wifi.
For better or worse, the surrounding area has a safe and clean, but relatively sterile, look.

Stayed here during a visit to Washington University. The hotel is is remarkably inexpensive compared with other Ritz Carltons, but i assume that's St. Louis hotel pricing. It is very convenient to Washington University but a bit of a drive from downtown, which could be another reason for the relatively low price as business travelers have more convenient options. I found the facilities nice though would agree with the other reviewer who said they were a bit "soulless", carpeting worn here and there etc. The service at the hotel is earnest and very good, Ritz Carlton standard. I did have a hiccup on the bill which required a couple of phone calls to resolve (first call was not returned), but once I connected they fixed it promptly

This was my third stay here & it was as good as I remembered. As always, the highest levels of service, and facilities. I got in too late for the restaurant & it was quite crowded in the lounge b/c there were some large groups. I sat @ the bar & the bartender made me fell well cared for in every way. I ordered the steak sandwich, which is no longer a strip but a sort of Philly cheese steak. This was not what I was expecting & she immediately suggested something else & comped my glass of wine for the inconvenience. First class. Nice room & very friendly valet staff. My only criticism is that you can smell the cigar bar throughout the first floor & maybe the lower rooms (I was on a high floor).

Room Tip: Get a high floor to be sure to escape the cigar smell

By all measures, I should be giving the Ritz an excellent rating. There really is little to complain about (other than breakfast, which I will get to). The rooms are graciously sized and well appointed. The public spaces are elegant and ample. Service is polite and prompt. But somehow it all lacks a bit of a soul and misses on the the littlest of things that somehow make a difference. For example, there is only a doorman to open the door at the entry about half the time. Not a big deal, but a 5-star hotel should accommodate that. The breakfast is enough to knock the rating down from excellent to very good. Tasteless and mediocre. It is no better than a BAD diner for outrageous hotel prices. My 11-year old could prepare a better frittata (and it wouldn't cost me $17). Barely enough towels in the bathroom along w/ a small shower matt that is placed every morning at the sink. Again, it doesn't seem like much, but it just misses. Same w/ the Spa. People were great but the equipment is mediocre. In the end maybe the place is just a little too old world for me. Big chandeliers and lots of dark wood in the lobby.

I'm probably being a little harsh. It is a lovely hotel at a fair price. I'm sure if my daughter chooses Wash U I'll be back. It just lacks some of the little touches to put it in the excellent category.

A super courteous staff who introduce themselves and remember your name, beautiful, quiet and well maintained rooms and the expected lobby bar with afternoon tea all add up to Ritz Carlton elegance in St. Louis. We met here for a meeting and the banquet staff, food and facilities were first rate. A great special occasion hotel located near some great restaurants. Overall, well worth the price and we;ll be back.

Loved our impromptu stay at the Ritz. Our suite was gorgeous and comfortable. Staff was accomodating with excellent all around service. Pool was surprisingly small and shallow but ok for kids. A great hotel experience!
