“Doubt we would stay here again”
Reviewed August 19, 2008

We booked the Sheraton Clayton Plaza through Hot Wire for a combination business and pleasure trip. 2 days prior to our arrival we contacted the Sheraton to confirm a late arrival on the first day (around mid night) and were assured that the late arrival was not a problem and the room was booked. We had booked the room for 2 adults and 2 children and arrived to find that they had only booked a room with one queen bed (for 4 people) and that they didn't have anything else available. After 45 minutes they finally sent us to another hotel several miles away for the night and we were told that we would be contacted the next day when a suitable room was available. So, we had to drive across town and check into another hotel at 1:30 a.m. (with small children), then get up early the next morning (7:00 a.m. and pack up all of our stuff and the children and check out so my husband could get to his business meeting (the primary purpose for the trip). The Sheraton finally contacted me at 1:00 p.m. the next day to tell me a suitable room was available. We checked in, after having to go back down to the front desk to have the key cards reprogramed because they didn't work the first time, and found a note from the managment apologizing for the inconvenience and a fruit basket but no other compensation for the inconvenience of having to drag over-tired crabby children around St. Louis for several hours because we didn't have a hotel room. Although the hotel and room itself were fine in terms of accomodations (however they do charge extra for parking, which was not mentioned at the time of booking) I doubt we will ever stay there again, as the staff was less then helpful during a very stressful situation and neither the hotel nor Hot Wire is willing to accept responsibility for this incident, both seeming to feel that it is reasonable to book four people into a room with one bed!

Beware: if you need to work online while staying in this hotel, book elsewhere. But, if you like clueless management, you might enjoy the Sheraton Clayton.

I have actually stopped staying here whenever possible because the Internet access is spotty and entirely unreliable. In short, there is not enough bandwidth going into the location.

When I complained to the management, in writing, they responded with the (completely false) claim that guests receive 100K of bandwidth and as such, they have no intention of making changes.

The reality, however, is that if you can get even 5.5 consistently, you're lucky. More often, it's 1.0, which is too little even to load simple pages.

I travel quite a bit and Westin is my hotel of choice. Since there wasn't a Westin, I chose Sheraton since it is a sister hotel. The room was nice but small. To pay $170/night in Clayton, I would have liked to have a view NOT overlooking the garage. Then they charged us $14/night to park in a garage that when we got back to the hotel at 9:30pm was full??? They had a sign to park across the street, so we did. The next morning the garage tells us that they do not cooperate with Sheraton and we had to pay for parking there. Irritating enough...we could have stayed downtown with a nice view of the city for the same amount and no hassel. When did hotels get so greedy?? Look at your location and your personnel before you get snooty and charge those prices...very disappointed. Will not choose that hotel again. It's a shame since my family all lives in the area. I would rather stay at Holiday Inn.

Not recommended for families. Wouldn't even recommend for business travellers.
--No free WiFi, which is unheard of in this day and age.
--$14 a day for parking on top of the $156 for the room.
--No mini fridge. If you want one in your room it's an extra fee.
--1 small bottle of water provided at no charge, but additional bottles were $3.50, but you would not know it unless you read the fine print.
--Couldn't find concierge. Front desk staff not knowlegable about area.
--Housekeeping did not remove our dirty wet towels from the room.
--Key cards didn't work on last day. Woman from front desk casually said "the system must be down" and walked away.
--No towels at the pool. Had to call the front desk and wait 30 mins. for towels.
--No stamps. Asked at the front desk for stamps, were told again casually "no we don't sell stamps". No offer to mail for us or advice where to purchase.
--No newspaper delivered to room which is common at most hotels in this price category.

We stayed here one night while my daughter went for tests at the St. Louis Children’s Hospital. Te hotel is pretty easy to find and check in was quick and friendly. I asked for two queen beds and was quickly accommodated. I also received excellent directions to the hospital about a ten minute drive away.

The room was just a little smaller than your average room (given what other reviews stated about room size I took special notice of it.) The bathroom was a good size but did not have a tub. My daughter got a bath in the sink(which she thought was fun).

After the hospital we returned to the hotel and walked down the street to a Thai restaurant and the back to the hotel for some swimming. The pool is nice but a little over chlorinated.

We had no problem parking in the hotel’s lot and many restaurants are within walking distance.

Overall A nice stay and we will return.

We stayed here a few weeks ago and had a pleasant experience. It's a great location with many restaurants within walking distance. We didn't eat in the hotel restaurant but it looked nice. The front desk personnel were very friendly and told us at check-in all about the renovations and how they're almost finished. The lobby is attractive and we were surprised to know that the renovations weren't finished here - it was already nice. We did notice a couple of service trucks outside and an occasional construction worker walk by (neither objectionable) but never heard noise or anything that made us aware of the work going on inside. Our room was smallish but newly redecorated and the bathrooms looked brand new with high-end finishes. We didn't use the exercise room but it looked new, too, and overlooked the indoor pool. Overall, the hotel was very clean and we'd stay there again.

My brother's wedding party recently stayed at this pleasant Four Points Sheraton. The property is just fine, the rooms are nice for the price, and the restaurant service and food was passable. The main issue I have with the property is that during my brother's wedding reception several members of the wedding property had movies charged to their rooms. This is wholly unacceptable. I brought it up with the front desk and they said what could they do accept reverse the charges to the room. I agreed but then stated that it really isn't about each charge it is about a culture where this is happening. I asked to speak to their manager and they explained that they in fact were the most senior people working. Although the property was just fine this sort of systematic fraudulent behavior is very disturbing and should be quite disturbing to the Starwood family. So if you are going to stay there watch your bill closely.

  • Liked — rooms were great for the price
  • Disliked — systematic fraudulent billing across the wedding party
