“BLOOMING GREAT”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 8, 2011

Bloomfield Lodge is the place to get away from it all and relax. The staff were all so friendly and helpful. The service was great and the food was certainly five star. The tours on offer are really good and give you a good insight into North Quensland life and plenty of wild life to see including the crocs. The fishing is good to.I can't speak highly enough of this wonderful holiday adventure. It was that good we are returning in 2012.

Room Tip: The Queenslader rooms are idael for couples and not to far from the amenieties.

Great accomodation and views from both our rooms. As others have said, it is very remote. Your e-connection to the outside world only works when you take the little day trip looking for saltwater crocs up the Bloomfield River. Trails are steep and short. too short. But then, the focus of this place is on relaxation, not events. Be prepared to have to socialize with the other guests at all meals.....but, most guests come for a few days so there is always someone new to speak with. Staff go out of their way to help you settle or fill your day. The two guides, Paul and Shane were fab. sources of local customs/folklore, fauna and flora educators. We really enjoyed them. It is a very nice place to escape, but note that your entertainment options are limited once there. Listen to the birds and watch the wildlife.

We stayed for 4 days in February 2011 in the Robinson Crusoe room, which was a perfect end to our 3 weeks in Australia, for our honeymoon. We couldn't have asked for any more from the amazing views, the tranquility and the service. Ben, Courtenay and the team were excellent, with nothing ever too much trouble. I have never met a team of people that show such passion in everything they do.

You may think that the headline costs look expensive, when searching for your holiday. However, if you consider the amazing trips (flights, crocodile boat trop, rainforest walk), the inclusive food (which is excellent, and just keeps on coming!) and the facilities (swimming pool, jacuzzis, gym etc.), this is a bargain!

Back to the Robinson Crusoe room, what an amazing experience. To be able to sit in the jacuzzi, just looking into the distance for perfect views, or waking up and being with nature all around will take some beating for any other holiday experience.

If you don't like nature being close by, prefer hotel rooms with Air Con units, and can't cope without the hustle and bustle of Mobile Phones, Satellite TV and the Internet 24 hours a day, don't go to Bloomfield Lodge.

However, if you want a holiday with total relaxation, first class care and stories of nature and scenery to bore your friends with for many years into the future, then you must experience Bloomfield Lodge!

We only have 2 regrets - 1) 4 days just wasn't enough! 2) We are expecting our first baby in January (great news!!) but it will be quite a few years before we are able to return!

This Hotel is diffrent from normal hotels. Its located very remote and its very private but since you are having your meals togheter with the other guest its very social. The staff is excellent, the make you feel at home. The food is gorgeus. We stayed in a deluxe retreat room, you have your own villa with a seaview. They are Fantastic.I would recommend to stay in the quenslander rooms or the deluxe room.Skip the rainforest rooms, they are in a bad position. This place is for you who wants to relax. Its very quiet, and not as luxurios as the big city. But it Will be a great vacation. We loved it.

What an outstanding place to wind down and relax. No internet, no mobile phones so immediately you have to stop and take in the spectacular views, the beautiful environment that is Cape Tribulation. Amazing food, great hosts and best of all the activities are outstanding. The local guides, great Aussie blocks who no the area so well and are a wealth of knowledge.
One of the best Aussie adventures we have done.
Absolutely worth visiting! Highly recommend this for anyone looking for a exciting holiday in a beautiful part of Australia.Wished we had stayed longer.

Room Tip: Need to have good legs to get up to the top rooms in the resort. Quite a steep hill maybe difficult...

The start of our trip to Bloomfield Lodge was rather earlier than we had expected with a fax sent to our B&B explaining we would be picked up at 6.45am. The reason for this it turns out is that Bloomfield is only accessible by boat and the tides mean that it is completely inaccessible at low tide. By the time we got there, the boat made tough going through the low water. If you get a chance, pick the land side of the aircraft in the way up/back and there's not much to see out over the ocean.

We had booked the least expensive room type, but for some reason we got upgraded to the deluxe rooms with a breathtaking view over the bay and the forest. It was one of the most spectacular hotel rooms I've ever stayed in (Maldives water villa vying for a joint first place for me on the view). I think it might be worth the upgrade to one of these rooms. We had no complaints whatsoever about our rooms and the only grumble I heard was that the water pressure at the highest part of the resort was very poor.

Food throughout our stay was top class and there was always rather a lot of it! Drinks are from a very well-stocked bar (in that most cocktails can be made by guests) and paid for per drink on an honour system. Given the cost of the resort, I would have expected beer, juices and house wines at the very least to be included in the rate. The wines were good quality by my measure, but one couple did bring their own having seen the wine list in advance.

Most areas of the site are quite steep and I think anyone who could not manage 100 metres up quite a steep hill would seriously struggle around the resort. Certainly the walks in the rainforest include some very steep climbs. The deluxe rooms can be quite a hike up a hill and even if you don't book these, you may be upgraded to them if the resort is busy, so it's worth discussing any mobility problems.

In the Dry there was surprisingly little wildlife about, and we didn't see any crocs on the river trip. They are very easy to spot in the Top End in the Dry, by comparison. We did see plenty of iguanas though and a handful of unusual birds. So if you're a twitcher looking for birds, keep away in the dry season. We didn't think the reef trips were worth the cost, and we got reports of two trips from other guests which made us think we had made the right decision given that we had just spent a week on Heron Island. Each trip had great fishing and brought back fish for dinner. One trip had lousy snorkelling that nobody enjoyed, but the other had loads of colourful fish, dolphins and humpback whales. Sounds like if this is your only chance to get out on the Great Barrier Reef, you should go for it. Otherwise, save your money.

Bloomfield is an amazing place and I think it's well worth the splurge.

We picked this place as our one nod to luxury on a long trip.
It really lived up to our expectations. The room was lovely and so private, and the staff were wonderful. The food was great, and there was so much of it. (I asked for smaller portions and they were only too happy to oblige.)

We also took part in the reef trip which was brilliant. It was my first time snorkelling and I loved it, and the little island they brought us to was the most beautiful I have ever seen.

The swimming pool is lovely and the limited number guests means that you get to know everyone if you want to.

Do be aware that summer in Queensland is the rainy season, and that this is a rainforest lodge. We were lucky and got some sunshine but in the weeks leading up to our stay they had had nothing but rain, and it rained a bit while we were there.

Room Tip: Get a rain forest room/honeymoon suite. Well worth the extra money.
